A good friend of mine that also works for me told me this morning that over the weekend he had stopped at a very old country store for some seed and had noticed they had a Schrade display with some knives in it. This store was way out of the way from my usual route home but the fever was too great and I asked him if he could show me the store on our way home. My youngest son is out of school on spring break and is working for me as well and was not interested in getting home even later than usual. As we approached the store I remembered stopping there once on a Sunday but they were closed. As I entered the store my son (Evan) said Dad, over there, China made Schrades and he was right. I walked over to the display and sure enough they were taylor brand. My friend said he was sorry I drove 40 miles out of my way for nothing. I showed him once again how to know Schrade, USA made v/s Schrade China made ones. As we were leaving I looked over to my right and there was a very old Boker Tree display with some knives in it. I asked the lady if I could see the knives and she said that several months ago she had moved what was left of the older Schrade knives in the old case (she tossed it!!!) into the Boker case. The Boker Tree display, which was very, very old had (4) 94OT's, (1) 108OT and (2) LB7's. I could not believe it, each one was $24 dollars each, cash on the barrell (they only took cash, no CC or checks). Since I only had 25 dollars on me I purchased one of the 94OT's and told her I would be back later on in the week for the rest. And my son said I was wasting our time. Pictures to follow later on this week. Thanks, Jamie.

Yes they are still out there. I did the same thing last week and ended up with 4 old stock Schrades. Dang, that was fun, 10 bucks each.

You just cant beat a find like that. Probablly felt great when she opened that cabinent up didint it. Great job.

Believe it or not, I have found several nice stashes inside of Taylor filled cases and there are USA Schrades in there with 10 - 15 year old sticker prices. Several times boxed knives that weren't out on display because the red felt insert didn't have a slot for that pattern. Other times knives with no boxes from old displays. I have gotten very well versed at in my politest tone asking, "Sir, could I look inside the case please?".

Of course with my heart pounding in anticipation, hoping for paydirt.

"DON'T BE BASHFUL, THEY DON"T CARE ABOUT KNIVES!!!"

Beats the hell out of sweating out Ebay auctions.

Scouring the backroad hardware stores hasn't totally put the brakes on your eBay shopping, as I noticed tonight. Congradulations, you got a good deal on that Old Timer. I was going to place a last-second bid for about twice the showing bid. But a twinge of something held me back... No, not guilt. Hunger. It was time for supper. :D

No indeed Bob. Thank the missus for what must have been a good dinner.

A hardware store find has to be "on the way" for me. Gas is expensive too. I'd been eyeing that Walden 108 all week. I do not usually bid in the same fashion as I did for this one, but had my reasons. Quite frankly, I didn't expect to win it, but did. Lately, the Schrade Waldens in a tube are popular stomping grounds for last second bidders, and I usually get outbid.

Well I think you got it for a good price. I too was suprised by lack of last-second bidders, especially a particular one or two that seem to show up every time.

Supper was OK; being hungry sucked, but now I have no knife (yeah right, not a knife around here anywhere), and I'm hungry again. :)

I'm also concerned that if we don't start bidding up these prices, our collections will be worthless. There's been way to many bargain-priced Old Timers lately... Maybe I wouldn't have won the auction, but I'd of made sure you paid a fair price. :D

Best Wishes,
-Bob

If you'd have done that, you'd have won. My second bid was only 75 cents more than my winning bid. I only did it to scare off a timid bidder, but it wouldn't have fazed a sniper. Whatever the case, it worked out for me.

For what it's worth, I was eating a big fat olive luncheon-meat and muenster cheese sandwich, chasing it with a Wellers and Ginger Ale, at the computer, while bidding and tapping my toes as the auction ended. Pulling double duty works sometimes.

Thanks for the kind act of generosity. I didn't place my usual clear out bid, so you would still have a chance. My top bid was $39.15.

No I didnt have a chance Thawk,I wont knowingly cut a forum member out of the running mate,I wait for them to be out of the picture first. Hoo Roo
