I read over on the Buck Forum that Schrade made a series of knives for Sears under the Craftsman label. Question: Is my "Craftsman U.S.A. 995233" an LB7 variation, or made by some other manufacturer? Anyone know what knid of steel was used in the Craftsman blades? I had an LB7 which I carried in a custom belt pouch (Gary Graley style, which he taught me to make) until it was pried off my hip at a recent show.) I picked up the Craftsman as a replacement at the same show -- had to make another sheath tho.

Hi,

I have seen a few knives at a local Sears store that look like they were made by Schrade and ment to post about them myself. :-) There also were some tools marked Craftsman that were Schradelike in appearence. I hope we can get an answer to this from Schrade.

Over the years, both Camillus and Schrade have made knives for Sears with the "Craftsman" mark. I have some older Schrade slipjoints with bone handles - the tang stamp is Schrade Walden but the blade is etched with the Craftsman trademark. There were Old Timer patterns made for Sears, with the shield saying "Old Crafty" instead of "Old Timer".

I am also hoping to find out the manyfacturer of my "Old Crafty" Model # 95071. So far I haven't had much luck. I have been cruising the net for a couple of hours now, And so far, this site has more info on these knives than any other. I will keep looking and post back anything I find. :grumpy:

I am certain the most recent brass/wood slipjoints I have seen at Sears are made by Camillus.

The small lockback is absolutely identical to a Camillus, except for the polished blade finish on all of the Craftsman models which is normally used only for the fancier Camillus models. It's polished, but not quite a real mirror finish. It doesn't have linear brush marks or white fog like normal cheap polishing, but it has a very grey look.

I don't know anything about the older ones.

'Old Crafty' got mentioned in this short but excellent thread, that explains how big hardware chains obtain knives for sale with their marks.

I've owned one big Craftsman lockbacks that was an LB7, for sure. I would imagine the steel was good old 'Schrade+'.

Ulster made knives for Sears/Craftsman, along with Camillus and Schrade. Here's one I picked up this weekend, marked Craftsman, but obviously a Schrade/Walden. As the thread mentioned above points out, it's things like this that make collecting more enjoyable, more of a challenge.

Hopefully some of the other regulars here will join in with more info.

Spill, Schrade is no more and has no connection to this forum. It's pretty much up to we collectors to find our own answers anymore. The firm that currently owns the Schrade trademarks are interested in profit, not history.

Yes Schrade made many knives under the Craftsman name right up till the end.

When I get a chance I will pull up an old report that has the cross over numbers from Sears# to Schrade part#. I don't think I am violating any confidentiality at this point.

NO, medic, I don't think you'd be violating confidentiality of any sort at this point. I look forward to seeing the list. Thanks for your input.

Schrade not only made knives for Sears but many other large chains here are some pics of some JC Pennys. I am having trouble locating some sears pics however if I had known I just took a floor model apart and redid it for another display so all the markings are off it. Sorry. If I find pics I will post. Now in reference to Sears and Craftman. Here is a small hint. 21627-166, 21624-165,21621-141SR,21631-25OT,21628-166P,21635-15OT,21636-148STC,21637-706,21638-208,21639-108L,21641-141BH,21642-H15,21602-48X,21656-125L,21649-138GSB,21648-148S,21658-147S,21651,141BH,21672-H15,21686-171, 21662-222F. 9507-180, 9540-10OT,9541-50,9560-29,9549-114,9470-98,9472-55,9473-89,9556-718RB,9558-946 RB, 9545-108OT,9546-34OT,9547-8OT,9554-804,9553-855RB,9552-825RB,9561-TL29 saw. Of course this was as of 1970 I would have to look further to see the inevitable changes but this should give you a leg up. Pennys had there code as well. It is around here in fact I would not be surprised if Jimmy Hoffa is here somewhere. Good Hunting LT
