I alway carry 2 and sometimes 3 knives on me most of the time. I prefer to carry one with a pocket clip for quick access. although I have several avitars around just for collection purposes, but the other day in closer examination I was a little impressed. I had always regarded them as a somewhat cheaper knife maybe for lack of better words. Like some of the knives schrade put together towards the end of there legacy that I just wasnt super impressed with. NOT bad mouthing schrade cause I love them and thats pretty much all I collect but there were some knives there at the end that seemed to be step childeren to the schrade. Just my opnion.
But after a little review the avitar single blade lockback seems like something I might consider putting in the rotation to my right pocket. Anybody have a pic of the whole avitar collection? anybody else ever carry one of these and how did you like it? - Joel

The Avatar is one of the few late Schrade knives I haven't bought and examined. Here is the circa 2001 ISC flyer for them:

G'Day, The last suggested retail price in 2004 Catalog is $75.95 for both the single blade AV77 and dual blade AV22.These never were cheap knives,I have them and they are very sharp and well made.Quite often it is people's perception that stops them buying them or adding to their collection which is why they usually bring squat on the Bay.
Same with both USA Lake and Walkers IMHO a better more unique knife you will be hard pressed to find and yet what they achieve on the Bay in relation to their respective issue prices is more an indictment on perception than the quality of the article.
The cheap Chinese similar looking knives are I believe what created this mis- conception for Schrade in its final months. The quality was always there just not the buyers. The XT1B Camp knife @$75.95 issue and smaller version XT2B @$64.95 and even the humble Viper CH7S @$37.95 are all examples of tomorrows USA Schrade collectables currently selling for squat.Even the quality Schrade Tough Tool @$79.95 issue price sell for peanuts. I gave 5 as Xmas presents to friends last Xmas cost me very little on the Bay but my friends will undoubtedly still have them after I'm gone.Same with the NaviTool @issue $89.95 sell for approx $22 I gave them away previous Xmas and always well received.
Schrade products always offered value for money and these later products are even better value at these under replacement Ebay prices IMHO. Hoo Roo

P.S. Before Lrv or Codger chime in...I know its even more surprising I would have 5 friends! Thanks for that MATES.

Larry, if your giving things like that away for xmas coming I want to be good friend # 6! :)

I have the 2 Avitars AV7 & AV2 Find them difficult to carry and just as Larry says its perception. Very well put together little knives but I do think the price point Schrade set was too high for the market.

I think those later Schrades suffered from a lack of style -- which is always a very personal perception.

The Tough Tool was one multitool I always enjoyed using, and gave away both I had because I could trust them to take care of the people I gave them to. An interesting mix of blades with their cutters/scrapers.

Larry Put perfectly Im finding out that your right. Thats just me jumping to conclusions in some cases, I wont say judging a book by its cover but the going price of ebay is exactally what I guess had me!!! and you guys are right very good knife carried it all day today. And larry I dont care what they say your my friend, by the way can I get a christmas present too.LOL- Joel

O.K. ...O.K. This year I'm giving away Boomerangs at least they come back to me...you know what we aussies call them if they dont return?...yeah a stick.!
Ebay Item 140198620406 I purchased recently for $56.11 MIB with I believe issue price of approx US $200.The Schrade Lake and Walker with BG42 steel and titanium clip complete with Schrade Zip up case and bling. I have purchased several of these now and I believe they are being missed by collectors. This one was first 500 production run of only 1000 made in the first place. The tip in buying is the BG42 doesnt have USA on the blade but does have a production number top of bolster and the cheaper but excellent cousin has USA but no production number. Make sure you dont fall for those 'nasty' cheap Chinese Charade Lake and Walkers however which are flooding the market for squat which is still too much to pay IMHO. The BG42 will undoubtedly increase in value substantially and you also get an absolute quality unique knife so you have the ideal combination. Both examples of these knives to show the difference with the BG42 are featured on Larry's' Schrades R Us' website under Collectors Corner, Larry H from Downunder if you're interested. Hoo Roo

I would be interested in the weight
The AV7 looks really cool (silver and black..Go Raiders!!)
(Not really a big fan of BLUE knives for some reason..)
I bought a Kershaw knife with a clip and it made my pants sag
So I brought it back old school and bought a couple Bucklite's with clips
Man those things are light..............

Thanks for the heads up on the Avatar knives. I've seen them but always thought they were Taylor Schrades. After doing a quick search for the USA made ones on fleabay, I was able to picked up 3 of the 4 new in boxes, for a total of like $52 including shipping. Still need to find the double blade blue one.

i recently received a 6OTX and a 7OTX, both big knives at 8 3/4" open, but not bulky. action is very smooth, they seem very well made. at app. $60 retail in 2004, they sold for about $15 less than the AV7 orAV22.
was this price difference marketing or are the Avatars made to an even higher standard ?

I was just checking out some avatars on evil-bay and was wondering what kind of black coating they put on the AV77 blade, Any ideas out there?

ebay has about 26 Schrade Avatars listed right now. most without boxes. makes me wonder whether Taylor Schrade is having these made as an exact copy ? or, are they all original Schrades ? roland

I bought one from ebay for five bucks. The box was made in china but the knife is American made.It was five dollars well spent.

I have now received 3 of the 4 I bought off ebay. 2 were USA made in boxes, and the 3rd was USA made in its original clampack. All look to be very well made.

OK, now I have a question on these knives. I was looking at the 2004 catalog on the collectors-r-us site, and on page 11 it shows, listed as "NEW", the AV97B and AV92B. They are a third version of these knives in ALL black. Since they went out of business in 2004, does anybody know if these new knives (AV97B and AV92B) were ever released? I'd love to find one of each since I have the other 4.

Thanks,

Dave
