Does anyone know if the Schrade Badger, SX20 ever made it to production at the Imperial Schrade factory in Ireland? I have managed to locate the other two fixed blades in this series (SX21 & SX23) and added them to my collection. Why they skipped SX22 is another question I have pondered for awhile. Just out of curiosity I checked the imposter (Taylor) site awhile back to see if they were now making the SX20, just to make sure I did not committ a sin and somehow end up buying a Taylor made one on E-bay and they do not have it listed there. Any help would be appreciated. Jamie.

Jamie, scouring my stuff as best I can, I would say they (Schrade) did make some. How many, and what the disposition was would be hard to say. I don't see any reference to TBLLC making them....yet, but they do list the SX21 and SX23. That does not mean they have been produced and delivered though. On a brighter note, as a friend here has pointed out, TBLLC is having at least some of the copies of Schrades made here in the U.S. by Arrowhead. I've not yet examined one of those, but they should be better than the Pacific rim imports I have seen. And we can pretty well assume they are made under fair labor practices.

Just pay attention to the tangstamps is the best advice I can give. So far, no one is attempting to copy the original tangstamps, though the wording may be similar, the type and positioning is obviously different.

There was an SX22, it never made it past the prototype stage. To my knowledge all the SX21 & SX23 production was from China. However for the original production run (100-200 pieces?) the blades were laser cut and were ground and finished in Ellenville. There should have been and equal amount of SX22 blades in the plant when it closed.

The two I have I purchased on Ebay, the SX21 & SX23. Both from a person I have delt with before and trust. Neither of the knives have any tangstamps at all, just on the handle and on the sheaths. Both did come with box and papers. Box reads product made in Ireland. Package printed in China. I have only seen pictures of the SX20 and nothing at all on the SX22. Will keep my fingers crossed. I will however never own a China made knife if I can help it.

I tend to get somewhat passionate when it comes to not owning a Schrade knife made in China. Guess I spent to many years in the USMC. Also living here in NC and seeing so many loose their jobs to overseas production just does not sit well with me. The Badger series is what started my Schrade fever so I tend to think of that series of knives as special to me. Sorry for ranting.

Ranting Ranting you say. I say welcome aboard. Rant away MAC you do not know how good it is to read the posting of someone with those sentiments, step up to the plate. Check the archives you will see a lot of the people here have kept the colors off the deck. It is good to hear someone who instead of spouting off about a worldwide economy and accepting imports as they take the food out of americans mouths answers the question simply by saying I just do not believe I will buy one. Because the answer is just that simple they make them and they sell them because Americans have either forgotten or never cared about the blood and courage that allows us our freedom of choice. They have also it seems forgotten that the communist chinese have vowed to wipe our nation and everyone in it off the face of the earth. Aw there I go again with my far out ideas ( ever hear of Korea or Viet Nam ). Knives and products made by political prisoners products we support to save a dollar a dollar bought and paid for in Free American Blood.

Let me take these sentiments one step further if I could I would take every one of these Communist Chinese imported knives and give them back to the manufacturer one at a time. I would like to drive the point ( so to speak ) home . In fact I would like to drive it right to the heart of the matter ( so to speak ). Never forget because I promise you they haven't. At this rate of apathy, it will not be long before we are reminded of this fact.

One other thing I appplaud you for being able to voice your sentiments in so few words it seems to be a skill and study in patience you would have thought I would have learned in 60 years.

However while I agree with everything you wrote I do feel that you should upgrade your opinion of what a real rant is. Now this posting borders on what I consider a light rant. Once again if you check the Archives especially around veterans day, pearl harbor day ect you will find some real rants.

Thankyou for your opinions I concur. Please stick around. LT PS ( stick around term used and posted to increase knife content of thread).

LT,
That was a little on the light side for a rant, but it did contain several of the classic elements of a rant! :D Nice job!

Mountaineerbluengold,
When I got my first SX4S I was very excited. It was a nice and it was made by Schrade so I was a happy camper. It made a great user & EDC. I ordered several more. When the new ones came in, I happened to notice the small print on the back of the clampack, it said made in China, (it is no longer an EDC).
I am on general principle opposed to buying things from China, my beef is with the Communist government not the people. Having spent some time in Southeast Asia, (Oorah) we dodged too darn many things that go boom made in China.

I have gone ahead and collected rest of the SX series as I could find them. I have an SX21, SX4, SX4B, & SX4S. I have SX4B's made both in China and Ireland. Kind of strange that they would make them in both countries.

Semper Fi,
Dale

Today's generations seem to have more and more of one characteristic - they want "it",and they want "it" now.Since they want so much, they buy as cheap as possible.
Many of them carry big mortgages on their $300K-$400K houses and they carry massive debt on their credit cards so they don't have any money left to use principles as a buying guide.
Today's schools teach little history and what they teach is "sanitized" by political correctness.
The treacherous Japanese killed a lot of servicemen at Pearl Harbor in a sneak attack and we helped them rebuild their industrial base for them.Thirty years later they were selling cars and other stuff in the US.Now,Toyota is bigger than General Motors.
The Japs don't allow their people to own firearms and the Jap government has been pushing the UN to outlaw private firearms all over the world.Nikon had to bring their scopes to the US for testing because it is illegal to own/shoot a firearm in Japan. The Jap Olympic firearm team had to go to another country to practice for the Seoul Olympics and the Olympics had to get special dispensation to hold the shooting and Biathlon competitions in Japan and almost had to hold them elsewhere. Despite all of this,US gunowners are still willing to buy scopes, guns, etc. that are made in a country that is doing their best to outlaw our firearms.
Look at some of the sporting magazines from the 40's and 50's.Probably 95-98% of the hunting and fishing equipment was made in the US and provided many people with decent employment. There were 100's of these companies that made rods, reels, knives, clothing, lures, rifles, shotguns, reloading equipments, tools, etc. New York state alone was loaded with them! How many are left? Practicly none!
Was it Karl Marx or the other guy,who said words to effect -"The business capitalist will bid on selling rope to those who intend to hang him with it".

Maybe this country needs a hard depression to change some of our materialistic ways!

That was a quote from Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. I hear that both he and his USSR are in poor health these days. So much for prophets profiting.

Actually I really didn't bring it up I simply am not smart enough to realize that there is nothing I can do about it and crawl away quietly. Judd Strunk who was not nearly as cerebral as Lenin but he did have a line in a song that I always found appropriate " Time is there disaster now there everything " It is a bit out of complete context still it seems to be our direction. I feel that your quote from Lenin is on the money. As far as the fate of the USSR by the time of its demise Lenin and his recant were as applicable to them as it is and was to us. Once again for the third time this week I must agree with the context of a posting. It is however my fear that when we have to pay for our folly it will be much more than a simple "Hard Depression". Thanks,Codger, for identifying "the other guy".In the heat of the moment,I couldn't come up with the name.
But,aren't the Chinese called "red" for some reason? Is it possible that's a communist country also, who is now eating our lunch? Didn't Google and a few other US companies recently compromise their stated principles in order to get their their hands on some Chinese cash?
I seem to recall that Google agreed to do for Red China about the same thing they refused to do for the US government.

Lt,thanks for the warning on the sheath.I suspect if a guy fell,in the right way,he could also drive the knife thru the bottom.

Sorry for having mislead you Codger, Arrowhead is making clones of the XT2, XT3 & XT7 for United not Taylor. United is selling them under their brands Outdoor Life and Rigid.

Thankyou for the clarification. It is getting difficult to truly tell who is who in the zoo these days. I do try to keep up with who is making copies, clones, and imported Schrade patterns, whether under the Schrade name or another. But it is confusing with all of the players keeping mum. My latest info on TBLLC is that they are now listing 120 patterns and variants eithr in production or slated to be soon.

Anyone seen the XT4 yet? We know at least one prototype was made. There is a drawing of it in the pricelist so I thought SMKW would have sold it by now.
