Hello Gentlemen,

I am an old reader but new to the forum and am having a hard time navigating this forum. I hope that I am in the right area to ask a question. I recently acquired a Schrade Barnett SB2 Green bone, it doesn't have a place of origin and no serial number. The blade just says Schrade Barnett and that's it. I have the box, pouch and shark skin sheath as well as the warranty and description of maker, Van Barnett, the box has Schrade Barnett SB2LTD and a small tag with Serial #0474 but I can't find the serial number on the knife. The knife is beautiful and for what I paid, well worth it's weight and I was wondering what kind of markings these Schrade Barnett's displayed. If the box has a sticker that says Serial #0474 then this SB2 blade should say First Production Run, I know that things were not business as usual the final days at the factory and knives were just thrown into boxes, but if their were a 1000 SB2's made, wouldn't they be all serialized. Thanks,

Scott

If the knife has a serial number, it is on the bottom end of the tang.
If the knife does not have a serial number, if was a 'factory reject'.
According to Van Barnett, there were no knives left to be sold. Since the time period that these knives were produced was when Schrade was still "upright" and "straight" in their dealings, and Schrade paid their royalities, all the knives that 'passed muster' had been sold long before the demise of Schrade.
If the knife doesn't have the etching and/or serial number, I'd guess it's another of the "cobbled together" knives.

Del, Thank you for your response, I can't find any # on the tang or anywhere else. I guess it is as you say a "cobbled together" Schrade Barnett SB2. As it sits, I am very pleased with the design, how well made it is and with all that it came with, I am not disappointed at all. Again, thank you for the information and your quick response. Scott
