Schrade blackwashed liner lock folder

It's not going to be that great.
My suggestion would be to get a good known high valyv knife.
Buck bantam $20
KabarK Dozier $20
Victorinox recruit $15

I have several Schrades. No blackwash (I don't like black or coated blades). Mostly linerlocks with G10 scales in 9Cr13MoV. Good knives. Takes a good edge and holds it well for EDC. My favorite is the 106 and 105 (depending on your blade length preference). No need to sell a kidney to get a good functional knife. Also I agree that any of the above mentioned would be good EDCs also. I carry a Victorinox Tinker in the other pocket.

Yep the tinker , $20 as well.

Kershaw makes plenty of knives in that same price range, but with typically much better quality. I'd look there.

The Kershaw Injection is one of my favorites and is even cheaper. The 3" model can often be had for only $10.

I'm always concerned about the integrity of the lock on a cheap liner-lock knife. And you won't know how good it is until you hold your knife in your hand, because that property tends to vary from knife to knife on cheapies.

Liner locks can be very secure, if engineered correctly. I don't have a problem with liner locks on a high end knife. But it is easy to make a cheap liner lock. Cheap liner locks tend not to be secure because the money was not spent to engineer them. This knife was selling for $9.95 at KnifeCenter, a BF dealer member who is not a low cost vendor. So this knife is a cheapie.

I'd steer clear.

With due respect, I disagree with you. Schrade and Kershaw and CRKT all made/make good functional knives at reasonable prices. I don't equate price with quality or functionalilty. Schrade, Kershaw and CRKT make good knives that are safe to use (as any knife), well fitted/finished and are quite functional when used properly. I know they are not held in high regard on BF, but still they are here and work well for a reasonable price. I've knives in the multi 3 digit range and higher that don't function as well. Repeating myself: price does not equal quality nor function. Just one old(very old) collector/maker/users opinion. While there are models I don't care for, I've never had a lock fail or blade break. It would be nice if Kershaw and CRKT up-ed their steel to D2 or VG10 or something similar.

If someone gave me that knife I'd throw it away. Not a matter of snobbery, but safety and principle. I don't like what has become of the Schrade name, and I also don't trust cheap liner locks, especially ones made by Taylor or whoever owns them now.

Good knives can be had for not much money. Kershaws especially have great designs with good materials for low prices. The Spyderco Byrd line too.

Going inexpensive is one thing. Going cheap is another. Don't go cheap. How much does it really cost to get a decent inexpensive knife compared to a cheap one? A few double mocha crappiato frappachinos? A couple packs of cigarettes? A six of craft beer? A few bucks more can also save you a trip to the ER to get stitches because your junk knife's lock failed on you.

I agree with your sentiments 100%. I was referring to the Schrades before Taylor sold them. Although I've had no problem with Taylor Schrades. I know nothing about the newer Schrades since BTI (or whoever) took over. The BTI Schrades that I've seen online are basically frankenknives IMHO. Nothing that interests me.

Yup. Kershaw injection is a much better quality option. I have the large one and I paid $15 for it. Well worth the cost for the peace of mind buying from a quality company.

I decided to skip that one and got the kershaw emerson cqc 6k

Hey man if you are looking for a $20 knife that is an excellent edc check out the Byrd line. They are Spyderco produced overseas. They are absolutely great little knives. I used a Meadow Lark rescue SE(delica) for breaking down boxes for a very long time, I also used a CaraCara 2 combo edge (Endura) for like 2.5 years exclusively. The CaraCara 2 is actually what got me into knives.
