I bought this trapper from SMKW a little while back when they were selling off the American made inventory they got ahold of.

The bone is smoother than it looks in the photo. In fact, it is absolutely beautiful. My five year old nephew saw the knife and just went crazy over it. I promised him he could have it when I die. Now, every time I see him, he talks about the knife he is going to get when I die. That is kind of disturbing. I finally told him he could have it before I die. :D I guess I will give it to him when he graduates high school. It will be hard to part with though. :)

You might consider saying to him pick a number from one to ten and then whatever number he picks say you win and just give it to him now ( for his people to hold for him ). I have written before about buying immortality with giving a knife away especially to a child. It is a memory of such deep definition many teachers would love to have the ability to engrave one fact as deeply as the simple act of giving a knife to a child can achieve. I recently went to my lawyer and had my will done over my only stipulation was that no relation of mine receive anything. Rather sad, think how lucky you are and if you do it now you can have the the future not as anticipation but in adoration. It is only an opinion and forgive my interjection in your personal affairs. Kind of an easy way to achieve immortality in fact I may have one or similar laying around and you can have it if I can find it if you wish. Think about being able to see him looking at the knife and listening as you expound on it isn't that better than waiting for 13 years until he graduates. Items like these are truly joys when the giver and receiver can both enjoy them . They really are only material things which receive there magic from the feelings and reasons of how people use them. There was an old Johnny Cash song in which a young man was talking of his Grandfather the refrain line was ( I thought he walked on water ). Just an opinion again sorry to inflict my opinion. LT

LT; Somwhere beneath that gruff exterior beats a heart of pure gold. You have made me REALLY like you.

Thanks, but I'm not in a hurry to part with it. :D I give my nephews knives all the time and, I've learned, when they are younger the knives don't last too long, for one reason or another. Even if their parents are holding on to them for them. Of course five is a bit young for a knife and I can hold on to the knife for him as well as his parents can. In fact, I am less likely to misplace it. I feel that when he is eighteen he should be mature enough to properly appreciate it. This Schrade isn't an expensive knife nor, I imagine, very rare but it is one of my favorites. It is a beautiful knife. The bone is smooth but has depth. The lighting in the photo makes it look rough but it isn't. It isn't a perfect knife. The reverse scale is much lighter than the obverse. But it is still incredibly beautiful. Each scale is attractive in a different, though similar, way. I was originally planning on keeping this knife for life. My nephew was so thrilled with it when he saw it that I promised it to him. :) He has seen alot of my knives, but has never shown as much interest. I might give it to him when he is sixteen if he mature enough.

lt, your opinion is always welcome and appreciated.

On a lighter note. There once was a young lady who enjoyed dating men now she was very proper and simply enjoyed male companionship. Dates were dinner perhapes a movie perhapes a bit more if the circumstances warranted it. However she had one quirk she always told her suitors that if they were going to bring her a present for there date that instead of the usual candy or flowers they bring her a new pocket knife.

One young fellow who had dated her several times finally could not contain himself and on his next date when he gave the young lady a new pocket knife ( which she put in a drawer in her desk as she always did) he could not contain himself and he said " you know You are a wonderful person and I enjoy your company however what is with the pocketknife thing it is not exactly a usual thing ".

She responded by saying that while she enjoyed the company of men she did not want to get married or have a family. She simply enjoyed living a free life. She further stated that while right now she was young and getting dates was not a problem but that she realized that time would take its tole and in years to come she would not have the natural endowments that tend to leave with the years.

Her suiter said so what does that have to do with the knives? Her answer was that there was one thing she had learned over the years. He asked what was that. Her answer was that she had learned early in life that there is nothing a 16 year old boy would not do for a new pocket knife. LT
