Saw an interesting Schrade box yesterday, and was hoping someone could provide more information.

It was a slip top 2-piece box, green label pasted on; it had originally contained a half-dozen knives. The (hand-written) pattern notation was #204.

Now the questions:
--From what little I can determine, the #204 pattern seems to have been something along the lines of a TL-29; is this correct?
--approx. vintage?
--As Schrade ephemera goes, how "desirable" is this? It belongs to one of my brothers, and he is not really a Schrade guy, so I could possibly trade it from him.

Hard to say without seeing the box. Schrade Cut. Co. used a box as described for many years before Albert Baer bought the company in 1946. I believe he used the same design for a few years with the Schrade Walden name on it.

Yes, the old boxes are of interest to a lot of collectors as an adjunct to their knife displays and also as a photo prop. The don't usually bring a lot of money unless some collector of a particular pattern gets a case of "gotta have it" and gets into a bidding war for one. I'd say that if you can get it at a reasonable price and it interests you, do so.
