I finally scored one of these Schrade display cabinets. This had been at my mother's house for years, and was originally from a store that had gone out of business in, maybe, as I recall, 1985-1990ish.

This main cabinet stands 50" tall and is 27" wide. Not sure what to do with it yet, other than to store my Schrade knives. I mean, filling the cabinet with the correct knives isn't, as this point, a goal.

Just wanted to share, since I haven't seen many of these for sale in this condition.

And a quick question: If, some day, I decide to fill the store display with the correct knives, what sort of wire you guys use on these cabinets to hold the knives in place? Fishing monofilament?

Back in the days, I had wall shadow boxes, I used a 22 gauge solid covered white or red (depending on background) copper wire. It twists nicely behind the front, much easier than tying knots. The rubber or plastic never caused a reaction in the 20 years or so that they stayed in the shadow boxes. Mine now, sit on a glass shelf. Great score of a case. Ambitious goal would be to have it all filled with original period mint knives.

Yeah, it would be cool. But, an embarrassed admission, my interest in Schrade knives is primarily their Old Timers. Much of the display is their other brands: Uncle Henry, Diamond Edge, fillet knives, etc. The idea may grow on me though.

Another small puzzle... In the Old Timer section are two spaces, for an "SAS 10" and an "SAS 11". I have no idea what those are...

SAS 10 and SAS 11 are leather sheaths you could buy separately. You have the correct time frame.

To install knives in my boxes (the ones that don't use magnets) I purchase bundles of plant ties from the flower shop. They are thin, and strong, and have a dark green coating, which protects the knife, and are as near invisible as you can get. They are about 6" long, and come in bundles of 50. Perfect for permanent displays, handy and cheap.

Thanks for the information.

That makes sense. I was thinking they might have been sharpening stones...

plant ties from the flower shop.
Thanks. I'll look for those.

The "Knife Room" is nearing completion, so the cabinet will have a good home. And now the Old Timer Collection, once returned from the museum, and my other Schrades will have a home; the cabinet has a ~lot~ of storage space inside.
