Schrade Canoes....sort of

For whatever reason, the canoe pattern has never been as popular in pocket knives as have many other styles. I have a few of them which may or may not have a link to Schrade's short lived ownership of Geo. Wolstenholm. The time-frame for Schrade's ownership of Wolstenholm is roughly from 1976 or so, to 1980 or 1981. It seems to be reported differently by every source I have read.

This is the 1978 NKCA knife and is marked Rogers Wostenholm and should have been made when Schrade was affiliated with the company:

The next two are marked Schrade Wolstenholm and are the IXL Schrades that most of us are familiar with:

The last two are Parker-Frosts, made for them by Wolstenholm in 1980, when Schrade may or may not have had control of Wolstenholm:

Redshanks,
Thanks for sharing the excellent pictures!:D
Are those model numbers on the bolsters or serial numbers? I notice the Parker-Frost's dont show them.

Nice Redshanks, I'll admit I haven't paid much attention to the canoe knives but it looks like they would fit well in your hand for heavy cutting jobs.

Mr. Redshanks,

The NKCA website has the 1978 knife listed as a Schrade (1 of 6000)...not definitive of course, but maybe a good leaner. :)

You probably know this...but just in case...Levine's guide says Imperial Knife Co. from 77-82, then sold to Meteor Industries (??) during 1982.

Ron, those are serial numbers on the bolsters. The Parker-Frosts were not numbered and are often overlooked as examples of either Schrades or Wostenholms. I think they're nicer than the 2 blade Schrade IXL's.

Mr. Bill, if that information from Levine is definitive, that means the Parker-Frosts were made during the Schrade era, thanks.
