I've collected SCHRADE-WALDEN knives for years and have some goodies. What I do not have and don't remember ever seeing is a SCHRADE "CONGRESS" knife of any kind.
Since I also collect CONGRESS pattern pocketknives [ and 4-bladed STOCKMANS ] have I somehow missed out on the SCHRADE versions of these style knives?
Finding 4-blade STOCKMAN knives will try the patience of a saint...which I ain't!!!

It has been many years since we made a Congress pattern knife, and I will list a few from the years that we did make them. The last year that we manufactured a Congress pattern was in 1973, so it will be difficult to find these anywhere other than private collectors. Below is a list showing the year(s) of manufacture, followed by the model number and in parenthesis is the number of blades in that model.

SCHRADE WALDEN

1947-1974: #974(4) (was the Schrade Cut. Co. #9743)
1947-1967: #774(2) (was the Schrade Cut. Co. #7743)
1953-1957: #773(2)
1953-1954: #973

SCHRADE CUT. CO.

1926(?)-1946: #7743 (2)
1946-1947: #9743 (4)
?-1926: #9746 (4)
?-1926: #7753 (2)
?-1926: #9753(4)
?-1926: #F9753(4)
?-1926: #SS7753(2)
1928: #9763(4)
1928: #7763(2)
1928: #7744M(2)
1938: #7749GS

I hope this is helpful.

Hello,

I am trying to narrow down the age range of a Schrade Congress recovered in archeological excavations at Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, LA. Unfortunately, the steel portions of the knife are so severely rusted that I can get no information from the blades, or even distinguish how many blades there were. I have identified the knife as a Schrade on the basis of the arrowhead-like shield on the (bone) bolsters. The knife is approximately three inches overall, closed. Any easy way to narrow down the age range? I would like to be able to say which incarnation of Schrade manufactured it and where.

good day to all, you could also look at the 4 blade stockman, 44OT in the Old timer range, these have not been made for years and are hard to find.
If anyone has one, they would like to part with, I need one for my collection.

thanks

If you can show detailed pictures or scans from all sides, our resident expert can likely give you the timeframe of manufacture. He knows the bone jigging and shields very well, and once identified, can show a matching example from his collection.

Good luck Rusty,
I think most guys in the forum are looking for a 44OT, myself included. :D
As my dad says, "They are as scarce as hen's teeth."
