I just happened to be driving through Ellenville today, so I took a quick shot of the old Schrade factory. It's a darned shame to see it empty and unused.

I did take a quick peak for the Canal Street Cutlery building, but didn't see it. I found 28 Canal Street, but 30 Canal Street looked to be buried in a maze of steel framed buildings in an industrial complex.

Thanks for the picture. That is so sad though...
Just think of all the knives that were produced there.

Sad, because I miss those great affordable Old Timers. Scary because it looks almost identical to the factory I work in.

That building was originally built for Channel Master, a company that made rooftop television antennas.

It always gets me to see old buildings like that go unused. As a contractor, it holds a little deeper meaning to see structures go unused. I'm currently wrapping up an addition to a church in Sugar Land, TX. That is where the Imperial Sugar Company got started in 1843. The company moved its refining processes in 2003 and about a month ago they began demolishing the old refinery so that the area can be redeveloped.

Looks like they will leave the old char house intact, but only time will tell. I've been driving past it for the last year two and from the jobsite. There's a lot of history in that building and I hate to see it go. A little bit about Imperial can be found in the link below for anyone interested.
