The Craftsman didn't photo as well, the bolsters are really yellow. It has a high polish,so pictures are not easy,at least for me :o

I have not yet completed my homework on either of these,so if you wish to share anything..please feel free :)

the #9470 was a Camillus two blade dog leg medium jack with stagged covers, Dunlap shield in1939, but an Ulster 98 4" three blade Stockman in 1959.

Despite the confusion on the model numbers, You have a nice stockman there, Todd A!!
And congrats on your first Schrade Cut. Co.!! Nice whittler!!

Thank you Codger for the date. I was able to flip through a '62 Fall/Winter Sears book and found my Craftsman.

If I could trouble you with one more? A STA-SHARP 9497 sleeveboard..

Nice knife that Sta-sharp, and good job on the photo Todd. That shield and long pull look like it may be a Camillus. Is that one 3⅛" closed length? I have a couple similar knives, an Ulster 73P, and a Schrade Walden 842. Hard to photo cell and get the etch too.

my camera skills seemed better with film. cannot get quality of pics i want with this 4 yr. old Optio 43WR. don't know if it's me or camera ?
and as long as i keep buying knives i don't want to spend on a camera until i'm sure. anybody else got one of these ?
sorry, if this is hijack, but wandering threads sometimes are o.k. roland

Roland, try taking some pics in the shade, open sunlight is not the best for photographs, grey skys are better than blue skys and you do not get such harsh shadows.

Russell

thanks Rusty. i'll find some shade for next pics. (have lots to post, just need some time). roland

and Sears 95302 3 1/4" Dogleg Jack.anybody else got one of these ?

You might need to "refresh picture to full quality" on the tang stamp shot to see it clearly, but it is a 95302.

The STA-SHARP 9497 is not on my list yet. I cannot see the entire etch, but circa 1941 the Sta-Sharp mark became a sub-branding of Craftsman. So your knife is most likely pre-WWII.

Thanks.I had the chance to dig through a 1930 Sears Book today,it wasn't in it.:(

Sorry about the pic, this one shows the etch better.

Todd A : now that is interesting. my 95302 is tang stamped exactly as is yours. the clip blades look same on both knives, but there is a 3/8" difference in size and frame & bolsters are different. neither knife is recent so End Of Days, "throw em together" is not the explanation.
any info here on Sears using same pattern # on different models ? roland

That is interesting Roland. I think someone said those white knives with the square shields were Camillus made Craftsman. Can you guys compare clip blade lengths? If the clips are the same size, the two patterns would have interchangeable blades and they could have used one when the other pattern was temporarily used up maybe.

Sears repeatedly reused pattern numbers like this. For them it was just a stock number, and really did not specifically identify a knife pattern and features. Those only mattered to the makers. So they usually had their own internal numbering system.

I wish you guys would send me clear scans of the Sears catalog pages you find. It costs me $16-25 for each copy I buy, so it is very slow going getting them catalogued. I never just find them laying around at flea markets and yard sales. This leaves eBay where I vye with other collectors. Some issues go for upwards of fifty dollars and I have to pass.

The white handled knives seem to be roughly from the late 1970's thru mid 1980's. Most of them are likely Camillus made since Schrade was concentrating on building up the growing Wal-Mart and K-Mart markets.

I have so far been working on the 1939-1950 catalogs. 1951 is on it's way. There are still a few gaps, but I have that time period pretty well covered. 1952-1992 is all I need.

Mostly the Fall/Winter catalogs have the largest selections of knives. But a few Christmas and Spring/Summer catalogs have some, mostly "gent's" knives.

If you are able to send me a PM with a mailing address.I'll buy that '62 and mail it to you.

A thank you for enabling my addiction.

With all those old Sears catalogs, the outhouse will be well stocked for the coming year..
If anyone needs a picture of an old Sears tractor I bet Codger has it.
:D
Ok, Im done teasing.

I got this Sears 14 hp lawn Tractor from 24 years ago.. Cant remember what it looked like without the plants growing out the engine and the chipmunk nests in the seat. Can you help...
Now Im really done.
Check out the Sears section on the web page for a few of the many Sears/Schrade knives.
