I met Schrade's western Canada sales rep (of the 70's and 80's) today. A very nice gent of 81, of Swedish background now living on Vancouver Island with his lovely wife. He never was a collector, but he loved selling knives, among other things, and had a friendship with none other than Uncle Henry!!
He's lightening his load, and sold me a few OTs he had, keeping just one that had his name engraved on it, and gave me a hat and deck of cards to boot. I feel blessed!
First the hat. The old guy is there to make the hat look good!

Then some used knives, a single spring Walden Muskrat, and an OT Muskrat, both lightly tipped from adjusting glasses (don't do this at home kids:grumpy: ) with a 156OT.

Then a mint little Shaw-Liebowitz with a gold bear! Fill me in on this one guys!!??

And finally a display case my new friend had kept from his "drumming" days! Enjoy!!

Thanks waynorth, I did indeed enjoy those photos, Nice collection. You must have had a million questions for the old sales rep. Do you live close enough to visit with him and reminisce about the good old days?

Waynorth,
Are those four S&M HJ boxes on top of your new buddy's piano? That's one heck of a trade you made! - JK
In all seriousness, this is a great post. Not only for the remarkable finds you're sharing with us, but because you're reminding a few of the older guys and teaching some of us newer guys that collecting isn't all about buying low and selling high. It's really about meeting people who share some of your interests and having a good time together.
Thanks Waynorth!

Good Morning Waynorth, thanks for sharing your unique encounter and new knives for your collection. are older Schrades still to be found in your part of B.C. ? i'd be interested to hear what your friend says about sales in the Kootenays. in my experience they were never common or well represented in stores here. amazingly in my 35 years here i have never met anyone who was carrying or to my knowledge owned a Schrade. i visit the 2nd hand stores, garage sales, etc. and almost never see knives, and never a Schrade. odd, as the Kootenays are "backwoods" and country residents always have use for a knife. perhaps your friend found the Kootenays too distant or too small a market to show his wares to the merchants ? anyway, it means ebay is the only source available to me. i would like to have the experience of finding a neat older Schrade in good shape "in person". roland

I see I've misled you, Kevin, sorry! I took that picture at home! I hope I'm not breaking any rules here, but that's yours truly!. Good eye on the Harness jacks though!!
The knife displays above the piano are my trading stock. You can see the spaces, and many of them are pictured in older posts on the slippie swap thread.

Oh, y'see I thought "the old guy" was the dealer! I thought he looked pretty spry for 81!

Just funnin' ya back, Marc!

I seem to remember mention of Shaw-Leibowitz Schrades in a thread somewhere, but I can't locate it. Does anyone out there know anything about them?
