Hello,

I have one of the first Schrade D'holders (stag w/BG42 blade, numbered). It is NIB with all that came with it. If anyone has an idea what the going rate for one of these is, I would appreciate it. Have checked e-bay over the last several months and not seen any.

Thanks

Hi all from Down-Under,
I have found a question that has not been answered about the Schrade D'Holder.
I would like some information on this knife, made by Schrade.:D

'The going rate' is of course what someone is prepared to pay for it. There is no doubting the quality of craftsmanship and design of these knives however there is a reluctance for collectors of Schrade to part with anything like the original costs to the original buyers< US$300 +>. I see outrageous asking prices that do not sell as some of these were bought as investments rather than by collectors who appreciate these knives per se.
Realistically when a SD1 & 2 changes hands they are in the US$250 + range...I have seen them sell for less by overwilling sellers. BY realistically I mean a not overanxious seller selling to a not overanxious buyer....they have not appreciated in my opinion as I believe they should have....but for typical Schrade buyers that is a heck of a lot of money whereas to an investor who believes a knife will appreciate and that is the sole reason for purchase it is not a lot of money.......the knives dont change, only the expectations...
The biggest improver is the Schrade Loveless because it has the element of desirability and also is likely to continue to appreciate like all Loveless knives....I sold a Schrade Loveless not that long ago back to New York buyer/ investor for US$765 <Au$900> and I paid nothing like that originally barely US$100.I do believe it was the first Schrade he had bought but certainly not his first knife 'investment'.
D'Holders will also come into their own value wise in the future by investors/collectors as supply dwindles similar to the Schrade Loveless.
To sum up they sell for around US$250+ and I believe their true value should be US350/$450+...just my opinion who has watched Schrade sales for the past 6 years. Beautiful knives and sheaths of which Schrade shoulkd have been justly proud to produce. Hoo Roo
P.S. Koldgold, Larry Vickery has Schrade flyers for this series SD 1,2,3,&4 displayed on his site which I believe you are familiar with. From memory SD4 production stopped in infancy due to Schrade closure 2004.
