Anyone have experience with the Schrade Extreme fixed blade. I am going to upgrade from a folder to a fixed blade for carrying on backpacking trips and this looks like a good candidate. TIA

I have the Extreme Survival. It is a well-built very very strong and heavy blade. In my opinion, it is on the heavy side for carry on a backpacking trip. However, weight is not a problem if it is carried by a car. It splits wood well and the saw works well too. I like the sheath too but not so much the butt cap-hammer combination. It is a thick and handle-heavy blade. Easy to control despite the weight but not a chopper.
Hold one in your hand before buying to make sure that the weight is fine with you.

What's up with these? I've got one on order from Schlegg Tools, the BT01; apparently there was another model slightly shorter before this one. Are they still in production or am I getting an orphan?

I believe that the Schrade Extreme (BT01) is discontinued but not the shorter Double Eagle (DBL2).
