At a yard sale i picked up a Schrade blank, not unusual here Ellenville , N.Y. is only a few miles north of here, and many locals have worked there, when I was shoeing horses I knew members of the family who were customers of mine, anyway the blade needs finish grinding and I don't have the equipment to do it properly are there any suggestions of people who can ?I will do the scales myself once the blade is sharp or ready for finish sharpening.

Cool find, wondering if the blank went through heat treat? If not, I'd keep it as is for a souvenir of bygone days.

Did Schrade install the tang stamps before or after heat treat?
I'd think "before" since that would be easier on the tang stamp dies? Or would that cause heat risers during the heat treat?

I would like to make a fillet knife out of it it's been polished ,initial ground for the blade grind" look" but not to the point of sharpness,I suppose I could just sharpen it but I would rather a professional look to it,I wonder now if it just lacks the final sharpening.i never thought of it as a collector item as is. I had friend who worked there years ago( now deceased) who had box of blank blades( reminds me of a Johnny Cash song about Caddilacs!). I also never thought about the heat treat,if it was polished and ground would not that indicate heat treat was done?

John would it be possible for you to send me a picture of it? (or just post a picture here) If it's already been ground and just need a final sharpening I could do it for you once the knife is completely finished. It sounds like it's all done and ready for handles. I'm likely not too far from you, I live between Wurtsboro and Middletown. Here's my email addy; ealbers@hvc.rr.com
