Got another one of these in today from knifeswapper. I've had several of these, given a few away and bought more. They're great knives.

In an older thread many years ago, knifeswapper said about these knives:

"The original (non-auto) Schrade models made by GEC for Taylor (Schrade) were some of the first knives made by GEC in 2007. I suspect it was a low margin deal struck to help GEC get off the ground and get in some practice making knives. They came in 3-4 handles each in the #23 and #73.

Funny thing was that they were much nicer than the knives GEC was making with their own brands stamped on them. Matchstriker pulls and lined bolsters a good year before GEC did that for themselves. (still not doing matchstriker pulls)"

I admired these often. Never handled one yet. I’m sure they’ve got killer snap.

I stopped into SMKW about eight or nine years ago while enroute west on I-40 to do some duck hunting in Arkansas. One of the knives I bought that day was a Schrade Fire & Ice - mine has black bone handles. I don't know that I have ever taken a photo of it. It's a nice knife but still in the box I bought it in (impulse buy). OH

I'm might have to seek out one of these, and give it a try. They have caught my attention in the past, but I never grabbed one. You guys are superior salespeople, not to mention enablers.

I just got a 23 with brown scales. It has great walk and talk. The blades took a very nice edge. I'm going to be using this one (my first fire and ice). Really impressed with it!

Interesting info and blades! I don’t need any more knives, not that that has stopped me before...

I gave one of the #73 models to a friend that is a rancher, as in - large cattle ranch. And the big ranchers around here get together to work each others cattle. This weekend they may cut 500-600 head on one ranch and in a couple weeks the same count on another ranch. He pulled his Schrade Fire/Ice out last time I saw him and said he bet it had cut 5000 head since I gave it to him. The spey was down about 20% but it was still razor sharp. He said he loved that you didn't have to worry about a jostling 400lb calf bumping the blade closed on you. He offered a 5gal bucket of mountain oysters as a "thank you" - but that would be about 10 years worth for my crew.

You'll really like that 23. I have a couple but don't carry one. It's a bit big for my daily tasks anymore; however, when you've got a job to do, and you show up with the 23 there's no doubt that you're prepared for whatever needs to be done.
