Well, lets try this again. I was thinking about getting a Schrade desert iron wood or a wildlife series knife. If someone has one or has an opinion about either/or please leave a post.

Keith, the only Schrade fixed blades I have any hands on experience with is the Sharpfinger. A great skinning knife, and a handy slicer in the kitchen.

Schrade did not, to my knowledge make a desert ironwood handled knife, fixed or folding. If you are looking at one, it was likely produced overseas for the new owner of the trademarks, Taylor Brands Limited Liability Corporation. I cannot comment on the fit, finish or durability since I don't own one.

There are plenty of new old stock (pre- 2004) U.S. made Schrades around if that is what you want. A lot of good custom makers here can put ironwood scales on one for you.

Some excellent knives come out of China. Hard to go wrong considering the price on those new Schrades. Give it a try and let us know!

The fact that Taylor bought the rights to use the name "Schrade" means that
he can slap it onto anything he wants - and he's chosen to slap it onto cheap Chinese-made cutlery.

The new Schrade, of course, has nothing whatsoever to do with the old Schrade except for the name.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I have a Schrade extreme survival knife. I don't have the new one, but I have the one with the thick micarta handles. The one I have is similar to the Chris Reeve model.:D

Sounds like a sweet knife. Do you have any pics of it?

There was a review of it in the Testing Forum by Mistwalker. I think it was a year and a half ago? You can find it using the "advanced Search" looking for "threads started" by "Mistwalker" limiting the search to the "knife review and testing" forum. Lots of pics and a very positive review.

It's also received positive results on knifetest.com. I like the design. Albeit it's a rip off of CR's one piece line, namely the shadow IV. The one without the micarta handles.
