Just got this knife in a Ebay grab bag. Tang is Schrade Waldon NY. It's a Skeleton with 14K handle skins. CAT is engraved on one side. I believe this dates back to 1957 or before since Schrade moved to Ellenville then. Anyone know value or collectability of this knife. Thanks.

I believe your knife dates just a bit earlier. The tang says Schrade Cut Co, if I not mistaken, and that means it was made before Albert Baer bought the company in 1946. He changed the name to Schrade Walden then, so it is pre 1946. As to the exact pattern number and a closer idea of the date and value, I'll leave that to someone more well veresd in the SCC knives than I. Unfortunately our resident expert on the older Schrades is on temporary sabbatical, but there are some other knowledgable collectors here. It might help them to know the exact closed length though.

Thanks Codger,

I have been here before just not as often as I'd like to. When I do, reading all the threads is great. I am somewhat of a Schrade Collector. I have several USA Schrades, a Copenhagen and a Ducks Unlimited and a few Imperials. Also
have five new clam packed USA Schrade Uncle Henry's and Old Timers I picked up at Walmart and Kmart a few years ago. Also got a gold Empire gent knife That dates 1930 or before with this one great bag of knives this time. Anyway thanks for the info. Oh the knife is about 2-7/8"closed.

The closest knife I find is the M7709GOLD Shac in 1936, but it is a two blade (flexible manicure file and large spear blade). It is 10k gold filled, has a shackle. Yours, following their early number system would be something like 8(3 blades)70(Senator pattern)9(Misc. handle material) GOLD(type of misc. handle material)Shac.(with fob shackle) so 8709GOLD Shac.

This is not written in stone since I did not find a knife exactly like yours, and hopefully someone will be along with the right answer directly.

Still waiting on that additional info on collectability and value. Bernard Levine dates this knife pre WWII.

I see that Mr. Levine's assessment of the age of the knife did not differ much from mine.

We are also still waiting for our resident expert to return to posting on the forum. He does still come here and read the posts, and in fact was here just a few minutes ago. Likely he read yours. Perhaps he will contact you via e-mail to give you the information you require. If not, Mr. Levine gives instructions on all of his forums as to how to contact him for a paid appraisal. Sorry I cannot help you more.

Edit: I see that you have your e-mail address unlisted in your profile. I guess you'll just have to continue to persevere.

Just trying to stir up some posts I truely appreciate the help you guys have given me. You guys have probably forgotten more about knives than I'll ever know
Thanks
