Good evening,

I never post but am a fan of this site because my dad's folks are from Ulster County since 1700's. A gentleman posted " The difference between Schrade and Case" a fews weeks ago and i wanted to say the difference between a collector and a user. My feeling has always been that that Schrade makes user knives.

In any event, who has been to the area? Who has camped in Phoencia and lit a fire with a Golden Spike [I have].

Now lets hear about who has pushed a Barlow into the bar at the Erie House in Pine Bush or carved their name [with an OH or OT] into a tree outside the Eagles Nest [sure it's closed now but - between Walkill and Ellenville] or otherwise used a Schrade to skin a buck or just whittle a stick. And which knife if best for each task?

Love the site and you gentlemen are true historians! Thank you for all the information. All the best to all!

I appreciate your post WVEAH. I plan to take a trip to that fine part of the country some day. Thanks for stopping in. Don't be a stranger.

My family (Vickery) was shipwrecked in Co Cork in the 1700. Rum runners I'm told out of from Devon. They decided to stay there and founded a few farms a of course a pub or 3. Others were owning and running plantations in Jamaica and the Virgin Isles about that time too. Still others (My direct line) were in the N.E. area, fishing and farming from 1640 on. Wished they had held onto that property.

Hey Wveah, welcome! Been up to Phoenicia quite a bit, have you tubed the Esopus yet? Beautiful country up there, only about an hour from Ellenville. There's an aquifer that runs under the mountains from one of the upstate reservoirs and empties into the Esopus. It drops the water temp. at least thirty degrees and shocks the heck out of you when you hit it.

I've only lived in Ellenville since 2002 but I love it. I was present when friends and neighbors got pink slips from "the plant". I read all the rumors for months before and after in the local papers. My Switch-It has found use at Sam's Point, Ulster Heights, on the Rondout, etc. etc.
