I have been looking into buying a few Schrade hunting knifes. If the blade is stamped Schrade USA can one assume that it is indeed a pre 2004 knife and therefore not a knockoff?
Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting & Identification forum is very interesting and informative on how to tell fake's but I can't recall if he mentions Schrade.

For the most part you are correct, but in these times, only the blade might be a SCHRADE USA blade. There are a lot of rehandles happening these days with fixed blade knives, and there are a lot of auctions of unused blades for slip joints on eBay. There by nmwere literally boxcars full of knife parts that were acquired by many sources when the company went under.
The post 2004 made knives just say SCHRADE on them, with no USA. If one is familiar with the pre 2004 knives, it's easy to tell if the knife is all original. If not, it's good to ask someone who is.
