I just purchased a Schrade Hunter's Pride fixed blade at an antique shop. Well, I purchased half of it and my little sister paid the other half for my Christmas present.

I was wondering if anyone had one of these knives that they use and/or had any info on it (production dates, steel, etc.).

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Schrade Collector's Forum!

I've posted my research on the Schrade 144 Hunter's Pride here in the forum in the past.

However, my wife wiped out my computer a while back and my own copy was lost. And while the site is undergoing revision, as an unpaid member, I am not allowed to help you by searching the forum to retrieve it for you. Perhaps though an upgraded member who reads this will do the search and give you a link.

Or you can upgrade your own account and do the search yourself.

Michael

Thanks Upstream! Since I posted this info, military knife collector and expert researcher Frank Trzaska posted an excellent bit of information on the H-15 and it's pattern decendents over in the Levine forum. It actually does have military roots according to Frank.

PS- I am not mentioning the search function as sour grapes as has been done so childishly in the Service and Support Forum of late. I fully understand the reasoning for this temporary measure taken by the site owner, Spark. I and other registered users will just have to live with it until either the policy changes or we pony up for at least basic membership.

Michael :)

this forum is worth much more than the very inexpensive membership fees.
it's the best deal anywhere. roland

Codger, did you really make 6,553 posts without a membership ? i think we should be paying you for consultation fees. i could send you a knife. need any Schrades ? roland (pretty safe here 'cause whatever i have, i bet you have 5 of already).

G'Day Codger,I just sent a group of photos of various versions of the older Fixed Blades Schrade Waldens and Craftsman to Lrv.Perhaps he might put some on here to support the many comments regarding variants particularly Military and Civilian production.
I would send direct to you but I know it makes your computer servor squirrels work overtime.!
Happy Birthday Uncle Henry, and Healthy and Happy Xmas to all members from Downunder. Some of you I understand are up to your bolsters in snow, while I am in record drought conditions and 100 degree heat!Regards and Hoo Roo from Oz.

Yes Roland, I certainly did. Most of my knife money has gone into research rather than buying knives for my own meager 1000+ knife collection. There are many fixed blades I am yet to get examples of. But my membership was paid by a friend back on the 21st, so some day, I'll get to wear the gold and post pics, and even recover my own research here. It is slow pickings going thru the site archives. I do kinda feel like I've paid my dues with the research I've shared, but fair is fair. So my membership cost the same as if I lived in Oz.

Larry, 100 degrees? Santa drives an ice truck? I don't want to see him in a swimsuit. I always enjoy your pictures Larry. You have an exemplary collection with some really fine pieces. I spend hours viewing them on the Collector's site.

seriously Codger, if i have a knife you need, i would be happy to send it to you. the majority of my Schrade knowledge comes directly from work you have done. i only have 2 FBs, a 152OT and a 142OT, both of which are my hunting knives and pre-date my interest as a collector by many years (25 + for the 152). but i do have about 60 Schrade slippies, some lightly used, some factory condition with boxes/papers. if there is one you are particularly seeking which i have, i would gladly send it along. afterall, fair is fair. Merry Christmas all, roland

ROland, your generosity is appreciated. And it is exemplary of what I have experienced here from members since 2004. But I don't have a list of "needs" for knives. I don't even have an inventory of what I do have.

Currently I am going back through records beginning in 1959 listing all of the contract knives made by the Schrade and Ulster divisions for Sears Roebuck & Co. I have a list eleven pages long in Microsoft Word and I am only up to 1972. Then I have to mix in the Camillus Sears SFOs. And then add the known pattern details to each knife. That is just to recover what I lost on this one research project.

I guess you know by now that I am not doing all this work for money. Or for anything else I might gain from it other than to add to the collector knowledge base of all things Schrade. In case anyone wonders, I am not a knife dealer, seller, whatever. I get my kicks from helping my friends learn and learning from them. I don't claim to be an expert (whatever that is).

Some day I may publish my research. But for now, I give it to all here for free. Just as your questions and free access to your collections and knowledge helps me. Many times the questions asked here send me digging and sifting for an answer and in the process I learn. How can I help but share the results? Am I ever wrong? Aw hell yeah! And I am appreciative when someone points it out and gives me correct information.

Again, your offer is appreciated but unnecisary. Now, if you ever run across that diamond encrusted 100th anniversary bowie knife...:D

Michael

O.K., i'll keep an eye out for it. hope it's not made by Taylor ! i do have a nice 13 Colonies sambar stag clasp knife that once sat on Albert's desk, which does not "talk to me" as much as a regular run Schrade, that i thought you might have a hankering for. but it's not diamond encrusted (yet, but it could be !) roland (Dec. 25 Merry Christmas all)
