Schrade I-XL knives

I've notified a member who has some bit of knowledge on these, and he should be along directly. A picture always helps though. You can go to tinypic.com and upload a picture from your computer, then post the link here and we will see it.

Lets start here:

They were only produced for a few years under the Schrade name but the IXL goes way back in knife history.
Lots of history about the Schrade IXL connections is coming to light which includes Camillus. Michael has written a bit about this in a few past threads
As we sort out the connections between Camillus and Schrade lots of interesting little factoids appear. Tom Williams of the Camillus Historical society and former Camillus employee has been a great source.
Here is a few more pieces of the IXL lines fron 1980.

And some more info in the Wostenholm line

thanks for all of your help. I may hundreds of questions and pictures in the near future as my dad has bags of knives that he has purchased over the years. Judy

I have one if the IXL series a fairly large clip point lockback, with hallmarked silver bolsters and yellowing ivory like scales. I bought it second hand over 25 years ago for $40, IIRC.

It is currently in storage along with several NIB Schrade folders purchased just as the company went under.

Any idea of value of this knife?
It has been polished (silver) and sharpened lightly.

Thanks.

i have 8 of the Schrade-IXL knives, 4 with stag handles, and 2 each of linen micarta and wood. all from ebay and unused. yours is probably the G40 if 4 3/4" closed or the G30 if 4". an "average" ebay price on either of these, lightly used, is about $40. roland

I'll try and get a pic posted soon! Oh and only into it a 20 spot!! Also on front bolster M251Q is stamped.
