Schrade Imperial LB125

Obviously, Danny, we are all at a loss about this knife. Have you asked the Duck about his knife, what is the tang stamp exactly? I've never heard of an LB125. I won't denigrate the seller here, although it has been done before in these forums, here and in BRLevine's:

It is, of course, a Ranger, by Colonial. Seeing this knife prompted me to my catalogs, and I found the 'LB' Rangers in the Colonial Catalog of 2001. There s your LB125 right on the page.

So yeah, Danny, I am sorry, but you were chasing a pig in the poke. And now, I will denigrate the seller in the strongest terms possible: He is a Liar. In my parts, that is calling the jerk out. If he says that it is an honest mistake, that he did not know.. fine. Then he is therefore probably wrong about many of his listed knives and he is not fit to sell on ebay or anywhere else. I suspect what he is doing is using the cache of 'Imperial Schrade' to peddle this Colonial, seeking to pull a fast one.

Withdraw your bid, Danny. And never, ever, bid on any of his crap again. He represents all that is wrong with knife collecting.

The 'Dusty Duck' on the left, the late Jim Parker on the right.

Another of the Duck's auctions:

Like Jim Parker, the Duck seems to have a knack for finding crates of 'mint condition' old knives in German factories.

Also... Sportcolbs sells a bunch of James Parker imported Weidmenshiel, 'German made' and Bulldog knives. Save yourself some money by simply buying them from Parker through his catalog.

OK, I'm not usually one for "piling on"...but in the immortal words of Billy Jack..."Sometimes it just makes me go berserk."

Here is another snow, er sales...oooops...I mean listing from the SELLER...

After reading it carefully, (it was kind of like the puzzle in the newspaper where you study the 6 differences), I think the seller is being a bit, well...de-fence...de-fence...defensive...

It's a nice wharrencliff (with apologies to Baron Wharncliffe) whittler...that, except for the nail pulls, looks remarkably like a Bulldog Thor/Viking/Seductress made in the Olbertz factory. Maybe all that rhetoric was meant to keep new collectors from confusing this HSB from a more common Bulldog. Or a Schrade from a Colonial. Or a knife marked New York Knife Company from one marked Jack Knife Ben. Or...ah, you get the picture.

He's turns an awful lot of knives. It's too bad he can't sell them on whatever merit they truly possess, get new collectors interested, fill in some gaps for seasoned collectors, skip the manipulative drivel, and still make a good profit from the volume he moves.

Sorry for the ramble/rant.

Bill

Piling on and rants of this nature always welcome, Bill. You make good points about this seller. He could fly straight, be absolutely honest, make every item description as truthful as possible and still sell bunchs of knives. And keep a certain amount of respect in the knife community at the same time.

I am not going to alert either seller of the snow job--- er-- mistake they are making in their item descriptions. That is not my job. BR Levine makes a similar request in his forum. In a knife show, or online, one does not interfere in other people's transactions.

We are here to answer questions on Schrades if people have them. As friend Danny did here. BRLevine is more than happy to give his opinion. BFC is full of knowledgable people to give advice when it is asked for. So is the only other online forum I participate in, AAPK. I ask questions myself when I'm leery or curious about something. The knowledge is out there for anyone that needs it.

On to important things... the center photo may not be familiar. It is the Vietnam Service women memorial.

Got alot of things to cover/address, but first and foremost, Phil - Important Things!!! - AMEN Brother!!!

Pictures and thousands of words and all, to see those memorials in person - brings the proverbial "Lump-in-Throat" literally... I have and am blessed, for many things, but for having had the opportunity to see those and the other tributes to our heroes in person, particularly so ...

My sincere thanks and gratetude to all - past, present and future - Armed Forces Personel..

I did/had contacted the Duck... His response wasn't overly helpful. Said he purchased the knife as part of a fellow's collection amassed in the 80s. I had asked for a tang description or better pic, said as he didn't have the knife with him, he couldn't do so until Tuesday - a bit late for bidders as the auction ends today !!!

From what you guys have uncovered, I suspect he knew/knows full well what he's trying to pawn off....

Got some "business" to take care of !!! Thanks much for the heads up !!

dannyb

p.s. Phil, I used your Colonial catalogue pic - send me the bill for rights infringement !!! I'll let you know what transpires.... Thanks again!!! dcb

Phil,
Nice pictures of the Wall. Thanks!
I was there in the summer of 1990, and the trees were green. It is beautiful with the Fall colors in your pic. The Women's Memorial had not been built when I was there. It is nice to see a pic of it.

Thanks,
Dale
