G'Day, I dont know if this Schrade Kious has been discussed previously. It currently has about 1 day to go to auction end in Britain.Currently GBP 107. = US $202 = Au$276. I wonder what the reserve could be on this unique offering. I understand Limited Edition 1000 made.
Do any of our fellow members have one?
Did Schrade produce any other Damascus blade knives?
Was this a sowbelly folder?::confused:
So many questions....so little time..........I bet our resident Thesaurus repository probably has the proto???? and a bit of history/ Thanks mates& Hoo Roo

In the spring of 2002, people were anticipating the appearance of a new Schrade collaboration with custom maker and guild member, Joe Kious, whose work reflects his philosophy that a knife should be carried and used, no matter how ornate, “functional jewelry”. Having been a full-time knife maker since 1980, he had developed a readily identifiable style for his work.
The NICA series was numbered 1-100 with green bone & shield. The standard was 1-1000 brown bone, no shield, both had Norris ladder s/s Damascus and both came with N/S bolsters & liners. As with the other limited production knives from Schrade, there were only 1,000 of these folders made. This is a handsome small "Reverse Congress Pattern". It has scales of nice 50 year old jigged bone. The blades of nicely patterned stainless Damascus steel, are ground and adjusted to nest perfectly.
This beautiful little folder measures 3-3/8" closed with 2" drop point and Wharncliffe blades, and came with a genuine leather pocket pouch to protect the knife. Weighs 2.0 oz. MSRP was about $250.

As with all of the other custom makers with whom I spoke, Mr. Kious remembers his experience with the Schrade collaboration as a positive one. According to Joe, they performed their end of the deal to the letter, producing the agreed upon knives of his design in an excellent manner, were forthright and honest, and fulfilled their end by compensating him as promised.

Current value? Whatever a serious collector is willing to pay for it.

Larry; Joe Kious lives right over the hill from me here in Kerrville, Texas. A G Russell has, I believe, this knife still available for sale in the neighborhood of $400.00. You can check his web site to be sure. I would guess the reserve on the knife on ebay would be in the range of $400.00 to $500.00 USD or more, but, of course that's just a guess and your's is as good as mine. I have a couple of Joe's custom folders and Codger is right, Joe is a true master and a gentleman to boot. His work is just spectacular.

Edited to correct my misinformation given in this post.. A G Russell is listing the knife as SCH-SJK1 for $275.00. They still had it the last time I checked about 3 months ago. Sorry for the erroneous information above. (Memory is not the best record after all). I'd still guess the reserve on the ebay knife is $300.00 or more.

I just checked A.G.'s site and he has it listed at $275. Not positive they are still in stock though, as I did not order one.

Codger; we must have both been on the A G Russell site at the same time and then you beat me back with the correction. Thanks.

Yes, but you beat me at ordering the knife! Let me know how you like it!

While I am revealing ultra-secret conversations with makers ( ;) ), it might interest you folks to know that the knife Schrade wound up producing was not the design Joe submitted for design approval, but rather they chose a design from his brochure dating back to the 1970's! Of course they simplified a few details like making the bolster grooves all simple "u" grooves, as opposed to his more decorative "v" grooves alternating with "u" grooves. Minutia, I know, but I find it fascinating.

Many Thanks to you guys,can you imagine if we were all together at the same time it would be like show and tell in school! Great info. Hoo Roo from Downunder

The Schrade Kious didnt sell on Ebay however I did place a bid after you guys advised reasonable price. Seller just emailed me to say I can have for 135GBP "Pounds"= Au$388= US $283. Not going to take up the offer but one could assume a Damascus blade Schrade would be likely to appreciate ....unless of course our Chinee friends make one vellyy similar in Chamascus Chirade!...with 50 hour old genuine jigged dog bone scales.
