Does anyone know if these are well made. The NICA series was numbered 1-100 with green bone & shield. The standard was 1-1000 brown bone, no shield, both had Norris ladder s/s Damascus and both came with N/S bolsters & liners.

be well

Floyd,

The couple I've handled were very well executed. The price is tall, in my opinion, but maybe a deal is to be found.

I lust after one of those, but based on appearances. It is just handsome looking. I've never handled one, but damascus has always appealed to me and Joe's work has drawn accolades for his asthetic designs. Sure, a handmade knife from Joe Kious would be much more finely executed than a factory collaboration, but I am sure the cost would reflect that (Champaigne tastes on a tequilla budget here)

These are well made, very good quality knives. Both would make excellent everyday carry knives if they weren't so expensive!

The collaboration was in 2002 and the original MSRP was in the neighbourhood (that's Canadian for neighborhood by the way!) of $250.00.

I'll never get the hang of these furrin languages! Mis Raices Estan Aqui!!

I want to add, that I know quality has a price....and the Schrade/Kious is a quality piece. That said, it's not a custom knife, it's a production knife. Case, Queen, and others are equally as guilty of putting a Custom price on a Production knife. If the marrket will bear it, so be it. Mr. Kious is a great knifemaker.
If this knife were $150, I'd be there in a heartbeat. But, I own some very nice customs in the $200-$300 range that are more than the equal of this knife.

I'd still like to have one.

Not that it is important, but since Kious came into the discussion....He lives about 1 1/4 miles from me just over the hill in back of my house. His current custom stuff is very very very high. I've seen some of his work before he moved to Kerrville, and it's way more to my taste. I've never see the Schrade collaboration in person, but it should be a pretty nice knife.

I am not into damascus but I do have one of these it is not numbered since it was the one on display at Schrade and was never supposed to be sold. So how could I resist. I guess instead of it being 1 of 100 it is 1 of none. Well made knife nice a bit pricy but I guess it like Will Rogers said when asked what to invest in. He said land they ain't making any more of it. It would seem it is the same analogy. LT

It sounds as if your Schrade Kious may well be called a 'prototype' since it was likley amongst the first (if not the first) made.
