My name is rick and I am trying to help a friend whose man has just passed and he was a schrade dealer. She has quite a few older dealer stock that she would like to sell but she has no idea how to go about it. I was just curious if anyone here had any idea how to reach someone who may be interested in any of these knives and how to get in touch with them. any help would be appreciated. Thank You, Rick Nicolai

Rick, welcome to Bladeforums!
We may be able to help you ourselves, or direct you to someone else who can.

Our rules don't allow much discussion of knives for sale, even in an exploratory sense, without a paid membership. *Since you / your friend would need a Dealer membership to sell here, you should try to get an idea of the outlets available first.

I am going to move this to our Schrade collectors forum, and edit your post slightly.

If you want to sell them all at once you might take a look at some of the dealers (have green handles) in the traditional knife subforum and contact a few. There are a lot of knife show dealers who would jump at the chance to buy them in a block. You of course would need a Gold membership to sell here. I guess it really depends on just how many knives you are talking about relative to the "dealer" membership.

22-rimfire, he would need a Dealer membership himself to sell them here. He didn't amass this collection, someone else did, and he woild be selling or arranging the sale for his friend.

Just a piece of advice. A set of wrenches brings in more money sold separately than as a set. Unless you have any that are like say 1/5 2/5 3/5 4/5 5/5 then if you have complete set like that tho I don't know if such a thing exists with schrades than it's worth more as a set

Welcome to the Schrade collector subforum of Bladeforums.com! Your question is, as you have no doubt guessed by now, both simple and complicated. We can't guess what it is that your friend wishes to sell, age, condition, quantities etc. To maximize profits of its from a sale of a collection/accumulation, one needs to know as much about the items and market as the buyers, at the least. Or be willing to pay someone who does have the knowledge and skills to market the knives for them. Generally speaking, most dealer stock items, if kept in original packaging and condition, should retain last MSRP (retail) catalog value. There are exceptions both ways. Some pieces not sought by collectors because of either rarity or plentiful supplies. This is where professional buyer/seller/appraisers earn their money. Knowing the stock and it's market value as well as where and how to market the stock. Bernard Levine is one expert appraiser and there are others, who will appraise for a fee and then offer to buy the entire group and liquidate at their expense of inventory, time and advertising. There are quite a few others including Bruce Voyles and a gaggle of eBay sellers.

The direction you take depends on if you (your friend) wish to invest time and effort in education and marketing for maximum profit and entertainment, or just wishes to unload the inventory for quick conversion to cash. We will be glad to help you determine what you have here if you wish to provide good, clear photos of the items. But as mentioned, we can't do valuations without some stipulations. Either way, we always love seeing Schrade knife family photos!

Michael
