I was wondering if anyone owns this knife and could give me a review or opinions of it. It doesnt look like a bad little knife, esp. for the dough. I'm kind of wary about the Schrade+ steel, but other than that it looks pretty cool. Also, how is the kevlar zytel handle?
Thanks,
Matt

If you live in the States, you can find the Schrade Lake & Walker 2 at your local Wal-Mart for just under $40.00 US. Unless you collect knives with unusual locking mechanisms, stay away from this one. The concept is unique, but the execution needs improvement. I actually bought one several months ago after going through several samples at a retailer to find one that was okay. Almost every model had some sort of blade wobble and or the blade rubbed up against the frame when closed. Also, the safety switch is in the worst place possible. If you engage the safety, you have to be careful not to cut yourself when you disengage it because it's so close to the edge of the blade. If you really must have a Schrade onehander, check out the Avatar. It's ugly, but the lock is sturdier and there is no blade play. I have not seen the BG-42 Lake & Walker so I don't know how the quality is, but for $40 American dollars, you can find better knives than the SLW2.

Are you asking about the numbered, limited production model with BG42 blade ($150 - $200) or the regular production model (around $40)? Some people believe it doesn't make a difference--they both suck. I have the former model and don't think that it sucks that much. I thought it would be a good EDC because of the high tech materials and break-through design concepts; however, I was not overwhelmingly impressed and the knife now just sits in its nice zippered pouch in my collection drawer. I agree with el cid--there are many other knives available that will outperform the Shrade L&W.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think that I will stay away from this one. I was just interested with the new lock, etc. I guess I'll just have to stick with the small sebenza;)
Thanks again,
Matt
