Schrade Lake & Walker Limited Edition

They made 1000 SLW1's the 1st 500 were etched on the pile side of the blade "1 of 500".
There should be a serial number on the pocket clip.

the ebay listing has only 1 pic. of knife, so i can't see pocket clip. i can make out "Schrade" etched on the blade, but not the rest (presumably "Lake & Walker"). shield says "Limited Edition", so i'm hoping this is one of the SLW1, limited edtion of 1000, in BG-42, but i thought they only came with a plain edge and this has a partly serrated edge. so i'm hoping someone may recognize it. seller says USA, so probably not a China one (United Sino Authority ?) roland

G'Day Roland, On my corner I have photos of about 17 USA NIB's L&W's Page 20 bottom and page 21 photos 6,7,&9 show the blade differences between BG 42 SLW1 and the SLW2. There is also partially serrated and plain blade differences. I have the BG 42 No 0062 which is etched on top back of blade with reverse of blade showing First Production Run 1 of 500. I also have BG 42 identical except being 1 of 1000 <over 500> does not have the reverse blade etch. The BG 42 's come in Special Zip up Schrade Lake and Walker Pouch with special BG 42 Bling. The main difference superficially between SLW1 and SLW2 is the amazing fact that there is no USA on Tang of BG 42's <SLW1> whereas USA is always on SLW'2's on both serrated and plain blades. All have Schrade Lake & Walker on mark side of blade identical on both SLW1 and SLW2. When Schrade made those knives originally they would not have forseen that USA on tang would be so important with the latter day absolute Chinese rubbish clone of the original SLW2 now being available in their 1000's at a hopeful Ebay seller near you for about $4 which is $3.50 too much IMHO. SLW2 came in distinctive box with its own SLW2 bling showing special opening technique.
The design of these knives as one would expect from 2 prominant knife designers is impeccable and one of my favourites particularly the BG-42 steel.
Yours appears to have the USA on tang and is a Special Edition SLW2 with shield. You did well at this price as the original ordinary SLW 2 RRP was approx $65 and the BG-42 RRP was approx $200 and if you see one grab it as they never achieve their true worth more through folk not knowing enough about them rather tahn the quality and design. I have one of those Roland. I believe yours different than mine.

Mine is a SLW2 and does not have the shield. Yours might be a home run.

Well maybe a base hit, but not a home run after reading Larry's post. Still, a great deal. The one I bought is a serrated version SLW2 in the blue box. I picked it up for about $20.00 including shipping. Surprising they did not seem to hold the initial value. It is a very interesting knife.

Nice batch of them you have Larry. Looks like there were black and gray handles. Is the handle material on the BG-42 (SLW1) identical to the SLW2?

Larry, thanks for your detailed post. i was hoping you would help out as my interest in the SLWs comes from earlier posts by you.
is the only difference between an SLW2 and SLW2 Limited Edition, the presence of a shield on the L.E. ?
could you put an index for pics in your "corner" and the ability to go directly to a specific page ? with my ultra slow internet connection at about 5 minutes to view 1 page, i need a few hours to see all of your fantastic collection. even knowing the page numbers, at present i still have to wait for a page to load before i can get it to go to the next one. limits me 'cause your site is a fine reference to double check potential purchases. roland

G'Day Thawk and Roland.....so many questions....so little time.....
1.Thawk,I just had good look at both SLW1 & SLW2 handles and I would have to say the SLW2 is greyish as distinct from SLW1 which is blackish. The BG-42 blade is distinctly shinier and smoother than SLW2. <I hope all those are all real words I know how pedantic Larry Vickery can be these days>. Both SLW1 and SLW2 bling state handles are identical material being crafted from "Zylite" '<a combination of Zytel and Kevlar fiber> to make it tough yet lightweight'.BG-42 steel is stated as offering maximum toughness <sounds like my mother in law>corrosion resistance and superior edge holding and all component hardware including the pocket clip is "titanium" <no wonder it had high initial cost> Both models feature "Tough Lock" 'the safest most reliable lock available-a lock that gets stronger with use'.
2.Roland I believe the only difference between your Special Edition and the regular SLW2 is the shield. I have a number of those collector tin SLW2's and they are all the same.
3. Roland I dont know how to index my individual photos or pages from my corner...could Larry Vickery please advise this old fogey how to in non Swahili? Thanks...Hoo Roo

my SLW2 "Limited Edition" knife has arrived. it is identical to my other SLW2 which has no shield.
i have no idea what is "Limited" about this edition. roland

G'Day Roland,It's Limited to the number that had Limited Edition Shields mate!Told you Schrade were regular tricky dickies with their marketing....having said that those are great knives and are generally undervalued. If we ever get this Schrade swap section working the first knife I will personally put up is an SLW1 to give someone a chance to feel the BG 42 steel model as I think they come up on the Bay about as regular as Rocking Horse Poo now....How we going with the numbers for the swap deal anyway??
