G'day, I tried to post a response twice just before the hiccup period however they went to the Bermuda Triangle.
Because it was a current auction I set out the differences between the SLW1 and SLW2 besides the materials which you only get to find out by holding them.
The SLW2 has a small swedge which starts about 1/4" along the top of blade from the thumb stud. This creates a distinct raised flat cap, if you will, between thumb stud and the start of the swedge. The SLW1 is absolutely flat with no swedge.
I have never seen USA on a SLW1 blade however with Schrade I have learnt enough to know you never know with certainty. I have never seen a SLW2 without USA.
If I had been interested in that knife I would have paid no more than SLW2 price with a small premium for the genuine SLW1 box and padded SLW1case,UNLESS I had been able to see top view of the blade/knife which would have revealed the existance of the swedge or not, and also would have shown the way the serial numbers had been formed, since seller quoted a serial number. The number is on top of blade where it folds at handle.
The blade and handle of the SLW1 & SLW2 are different colors when you are able to hold both however this is not readily apparent in photos particularly the very poor quality photos of that seller.<The handle of the SLW1 is darker and the blade is smoother and not stainless shiny like the SLW2.
The serial number is so important when selling a SLW1 one can only wonder why it was not shown...and one can draw their own conclusions...
My personal opinion is, without the benefit of clear photos, and not being able to see the etched number which could easily be added to the blank SLW2, and with USA stamping exactly where it appears on the SLW2 and in one photo there is a hint of the swedge or squared cap on top of blade.......that if I had been the buyer I would expect the worst rather than the best result on what I had received...
However not everyone is like me and crawls inside and all over every Schrade I handle<I usually meet Thawk inside with his flashlight as well in the corridors!!> and if the swedge is present it may not have the same significance to the buyer as it does to me.
Summary: If that knife turns out to be genuine SLW1 and stamped USA, we have found another variation not hitherto seen, and I would be checking I got my BG42 moneys worth with the blade.. but the jury is still out for me.......Hoo Roo
PS the first 500 being first production run all have First Production run etched on reverse of blade. The next 500 in the total production of 1000 SLW1 pieces do not. That knife numbered over 500 would rightly have no etch....so that part tallied...
