I recently bought one of these on clearance at a Galyan's in my area for $11. Seems like a decent knife at that price. It didn't come with directions specific to this knife, only Schrade's generic one's. I'm not sure what the purpose is of that small metal piece that slides over. (it's in the tang area) Does this have to be engaged for the blade to be safely locked in place? Doesn't appear to be, but I'm not sure. Seems like the blade is securely locked in place when you push in the round metal button on the handle & it clicks in place. I emailed Schrade a week ago, but haven't heard back from them. I also did a search here, & although there we're a few threads on the L & W, I didn't find anything pertaining to this. Could someone please explain what the correct lockup procedure is & what that sliding piece is for. Thanks.

Mick57,
The sliding safety lock is in addition to the fact it's a framelock. The LAWKS (Lake And Walker Knife Safety, I believe) is a good idea if you are going to be twisting or gripping tightly for a particular task. I have one and think it is a nice knife, but I'm a righty. As the review states, it's not as lefty friendly as some. That review may be for the custom version, as it alludes to BG-42 steel and titanium in the build. Our version was made with 440A, I think, before the change to 420hc, and a synthetic (Zytel/Kevlar?) frame.
Still a nice product, partly designed by two masters in conjunction with Schrade. Plus, you got a great deal. :)

Thanks guys. That helps alot. Yeah, I thought it was a very good price after looking it over & went back & picked up a second one. They came in blue Special Edition tins. Thanks again...I appreciate it.
