For less than $40 the schrade kukri is an excellent choice for a budget chopper. I've been beating the hell outta this thing and it's taken it without an issue. It holds an edge great and makes short work of most tasks.

It does perform allot better without the coating creating drag thou.

Schrade has really been knocking out some quality fixed blades at good prices. Makes me want to take up camping just so I have an excuse to buy and use them...

Do it!

I sadly live in an apt, when I'd rather own something with some property. As such, I don't get to use my fixed blades as much as I'd like. However, camping has been a great way to get out and practice skills, try out gear, and just in general decompress. I call it my "mental floss".

I think the Schrade that I'd be most likely to purchase is the SCH42, or SCH42D (soon to be released). This Khukri isn't quite my style (what are the holes in the blade for? Also, the blade isn't as canted forward as I'm used to seeing for a khukri), but in the last two years or so Schrade clearly has been making an effort, and its been noticed.

Grats on the new steel OP :).

I honestly wasn't expecting much from it, I initially got bc I just wanted a cheap beater for clearing brush out at a property we have...Well after opening it up and trying it out I realized it was actually a really solid blade...not so good for brush clearing as it doesn't have any flex in it, but it eats thru wood like a beaver...I cut down a 8" diameter dead pine with it today and it honestly didn't take very long. The holes in the blade idk what there purpose is, but the design thou not like typical kukris is still good it bites really deep.

Ironically, that's a barong design, not a bolo; but the reviews I've seen of it are almost uniformly positive.

I also think its kind of funny, as the khukri does look more like a bolo to me as well, and that bolo does in fact look very much like a barong. But hey, doesn't really matter what you call it as long as it works well, right?

And that handle on the khukri/ actually looks a LOT more comfortable than many of the schrade handles I've seen on their other fixed blades, which is a plus.

It's comfy but has hot spots depending on your grip...it gives me blisters in 3 spots with allot of use if I forget my gloves and my hands are pretty calused from working construction.

I should also add that out of the box the edge was decent, sharp but close to a 60° inclusive edge. It does allot better since I reprofiled it some...the belly to the tip is 20 dps with a 22.5 dps micro bevel. The recurve section of the blade is 17 dps for finer tasks.

Eventually I'm going to send it out and have Josh preform a regrind on it. I've reached the limit of what the work sharp can handle on this one, but until then it's still much better than the factory edge.
