Schrade LB7 4 pin vs 3 pin

Sorry if this has been discussed one too many times but I can’t seem to find reference to it in my forum searches.
I’d like to know why Schrade switched from 4 pins to 3 pins in the LB 7 and when did the switch over occur? Thanks
