I'm bidding on a Schrade LB7. After I bid on the knife, it looks like the blade may have edge damage. I was trying to find one pre 2004 made in the USA.
I understand I can't retract my bid, I just want to know how bad it looks.. Thanks
Looks fine to me!
Might have been sharpened poorly at one time by a previous owner, but that'll work itself out the first or second time you sharpen it.
Should prove to be a decent buy, assuming you're not dropping big money.
The photo is out of focus, but I think I can make out what look to be a number of small nicks. If that is the problem, they should disappear after the first couple of sharpenings.
To me it looks like the older knife has a slightly different blade altogether. There is no notch/choil on the older blade. This was most likely a design change that happened at some point. The old blade may well have always had the recurve.
Some of the older ones had a curve like that to them. I've got one similar. Its probably fine. Mine is really old. I've had it forever. I think it has a four digit serial number even and begins with a letter indicating its pretty old too. I was on the Schrade forum once and found a post there from someone indicating it was indeed pretty much older than I figured. Apparently they only ran serial numbers up until 1989. I know this one has been with me since we lived in Illinois and I have not lived there since early 86.
Just be carful I bought a lot of 3 schrades on ebay and all had been poorly sharpened on a grinder of some kind It took a lot of time and a considerable amount of blade material before they were returned to servicable edges.
