Hello all, I'm sure someone will be able to answer this for me,
Do or did Schrade engrave serial numbers on the top bolster of their LB7's

Or is this here for another reason?

Cheers Kris,

This was a valuable resource when trying to date my own LB7. It's a good read and you should add your info with a post!

If memory is functioning, LB7 is a Uncle Henry?
Uncle Henry had the "Guaranteed Aganst Loss" warranty, so had a Serial Number, at least until Schrade wised up (IMHO) and dropped that for more than one "person" (note quotes) ... "Buy One Get One Free" guarantee.
I have no doubt at least half the knives replaced under that guarantee were not lost when the "person" (note quotes) sent in the claim.
I have no idea if they replaced more than one knife per customer or address. Considering the state of computers in the 1970's and 1980's I would not be shocked or surprised if some got more than one free replacement for the same knife.

It seems at some point after 1980 (maybe mid 1980's? early 1980's?) they switched the tang stamp from a 2 line SCHRADE+ over U.S.A. LB7 to a 3 line Uncle Henry over SCHRADE+ over LB7 U.S.A.
So, I don't believe that all LB7's are from the Uncle Henry. At least not officially via tang stamp. I'm not certain about the packaging or marketing.

True, However, all the Old Timer version have "7OT" on the tang, and lacked the SN on the bolster.
Here is a shot of my circa 1978 to 1984 Old Timer 7OT tang. The knives with a stainless blade had the "+" after "Schrade".
This is an early 7OT with a 1095 blade.

The "LB5; LB6; LB7; and LB8" series knives were all Uncle Henry. I believe the LB6 and 6OT were both bare heads, with a bolster only on the pivot end.
I think the difference between the Uncle Henry LB7 and LB8 is the LB7 had wood covers, the LB8 Staglon covers. All the Old Timer's had "saw cut" Delrin.
I am pretty sure all the Uncle Henry knives had Schrade+ blades, being the upgrade version of the Old Timer. However, towards the end years, Old Timer's got "Schrade +" blades, as well.
I have a 2000 to 2003 Old Timer 6OT (the 6OT model may have been Schrade+ only) and 7OT, both have a "Schrade+" tang stamp. Sadly, I don't have them here.

The LB-7's were marketed as official Uncle Henry knives right from the start. They were called the Uncle Henry Bear Paw. Had the same "guaranteed against loss" warranty.

I have two; the first an Uncle Henry LB-7, the other from the Bird Dog limited runs. Both with Schrade+ stainless steel blades. The bird dog has plated bolsters and a different rivet pattern. OH
