I'm definitely a dumb new guy where knives are concerned - watches have been my "thing", which is how Bob Allman came to be a good friend and has started to now get me sucked into this world, too... :)

I'm trying to track something down and have done some searches without success.

I have an old Schrade LB7 with what appears to be bone handles as shown in this picture:

Schrade1.jpg

If my memory is correct, I bought this new from a vendor in front of the Nellis AFB Base Exchange in 1981 - it is definitely from that time period. I remember being told by the seller it was a limited edition run of this knife - note the low serial number on the bolster:

Anyway, I'd appreciate any information about the history of this one, what that material is, how many were made, and so on.

Thanks,

Al

positivelyal,
My guess is the handle is Stagalon. It looks like there are 3 pins in the handle which my notes say dates it to the late 80's. Prior to then it was made with 4 pins.
I'll bet LT can help us.
Great example of a beauty of a knife.
Larry

P.S.
Ive never seen a LB7 with the Stagalon handles. The LB8 has them and the LB7 was woodgrain. I found a note on the LB8 that near the end of their production life there were some made using the LB7 stamped blades.
So with all that said... Wait for LT

As indicated in the thread thusfar, there are knowledgeable experts here who can and will make an effort to help you out with your question.

I've been here since the very beginning making the first post after Mike and Sparky (aka Kevin). Moderated the General Forum with James Mattis. This when we had but a couple hundred participants. Now BFC hosts 18000 members! Gesh -:)

Anyhow be patient and you'll be rewarded. Nice looking folder by the way.

Best!

Never to be forgotten: James Mattis, Walt "Doc" Welch, and Rob Simonich

I guess it has all been said ( I got here late ) it is a PAPA BEAR with an LB-7 marking. I included a couple of pics.( marked LB-8 ) Some were stamped some not. Number stamping was done for several reasons back then the had a lifetime guarantee and you had to register your number, later on they just honored any knives claimed lost stolen or broken. It is the uncle Henry version of the LB-7 with staglon handles. (ie imi stag delrin, plastic). Nellis AFB North Las Vegas Nev I did a TDA (civilian) investigation there in 67 the home of the Thunderbirds . One of them had an accident he came in on the rollover maneuver about 20 or 30 feet low since the tail is only around 15 feet above the surface when it is done correctly. This miscalculation lead to a large gouge in the tarmack and not much left of the pilot except a greasy spot. It was a very sad accident.

I wonder if the boys on the flight line still fuel there cars on JP-4. I think that same vender was there in 67 only younger, he was selling something but, I do not believe it was knives.

Man this is the most action I have seen on this forum in a while I guess i should go away more often. That was simply a statment not a request for opinions. LT

LT, thanks for the nice response. I still have the little 'booklet' that came with it, but don't remember if I ever filled out the registration.

That T-Bird incident you're talking about is before my time - FYI, I retired from the AF as a Chief ten years ago.

Thanks....and don't go away. :)

Save the booklet with the knife. Now even the booklets have become collectables. The NCOIC of the flight line and i hit it off pretty good. So while on the assignment I had time to look around, North Las Vegas was interesting in those days. I was having a beer in one place when a guy rode in on a horse. I also remember a pool game which I bet on. I am glad I won because the gal I beat looked a lot better paying off the bet of dancing nude on the pool table than I would have. I think the other guys liked it better also. Funny up till then I was the outsider who was investigating the accident and most of the crews kept there distance after that I didn't pay for a drink all night. After being with the govt I left for something quiet so I joined the NYS dept of correction. My first station was Mattewan for the criminally insane. Apparently I was never real smart.

Just to show how things change about 15 years ago I was in a bar and a guy rode in on a motorcycle, and all the females serving the drinks were nude. Last year I watched a guy at the Monte Carlo get kicked out of a poker game for swearing and you are not allowed to smoke in the poker room. Oh yes and two guys in drag walked in holding hands.

You know what. give me the girl dancing on the pool table and the fella riding in and drinking his beer on horse back. LT PS Last Sat I was playing cards in Foxwoods which has become about as antiseptic as most casinos are these days they had a little brochure to rate how you liked the place and any ideas of what would improve it. I suggested they pump in some cigar smoke.

And how about naked girls dancing on the poker tables if you're having a bad run of cards.....You know just to change your luck. In some sports they're called "Slumpbusters". :o

Schrade.

Bill
P.S.
I REALLY like the pumped in cigar smoke....one of your best yet. Are you appearing all this week in the Foxwoods Lounge? :D

Never heard of the slumpbuster thing I am not sure if you are serious but, nothing would surprise me anymore. No I won't be appearing anywhere in fact I owe all of YOU a vote of thanks for putting up with my babblings. LT

Actually LT, we all owe you......I don't believe this forum would have survived without your pictures, history lessons, and stories. I have alot more fun here than any other forum, and I learn from all the knowledgeable folks here. I have owned a few Schrades during my life but knew nothing of the rich history about the various companies, until I came here. It is interesting here, to say the least.

Of course I always thought ping pong was just a game, until recently....... :D

Bill

P.S.
A "Slumpbuster" is getting intimate with a girl you wouldn't take home to mom, for a variety of reasons. No one knows if it is really the cause for changing a bad streak, but it sounds better than most other options.

You see I was married most of my life, I missed the sexual revolution, free love, drugs just about everything except raising a family on to little money feeding them on venison, heating the house with wood and learning how to patch a muffler pipe with a salmon can ( split and wired to the pipe ). I knew I was in trouble when I used to watch the Waltons and be jealous of there truck because it was better than mine.

As a result I am somewhat remiss regarding my terminology of contemporary
phrases involving the opposite gender. LT

For adults only infact if your at all squemish.. dont look.
down right nasty.

Weird how do you dig this stuff up? NO wait it was only a retorical question. I guess I deserved this response I did ask for it. You guys are rough. I guess this was on a need to know basis I realize now I did not need to know. LT

Larry, that site is so brutal, I need to go wash my mouth out with soap after just reading a couple of pages.....including the s' (Slumpbuster) of course. :o

LT, this is the "Cutting Edge" of knifedom, here on the Schrade Forum, and you are our leader by default, as you are the best storyteller, be it history, knives, or projectiles.

And away we go!

Bill

Shock value was extreme. I had to erase my browser history after reading a few pages. Found it with yahoo search for slumpbuster very quickly.
I cant imagine having all the time to sit down and write all that down. Well maybe I can with all the junk mail I get, someone out there is doing little else.
That one is off the curb and looking up at the gutter.
TTYL

Or as we say in the Southwest.....
"That's lower than a snake's belly when he's on the move".

Thanks for that education Larry. There are however many new tricks this old dog wants no part of.
