I was peruseing the local knife shop today and bought a mint USA Schrade 175, it has a single large sheepsfoot blade and one bolster. I have never seen one like it before. Can someone please tell me some more about it? I think it is supposed to be a florist's knife. Also, is it rare or worth much money? I would like to sharpen and use it, but not if it is hard to come by and expensive. Thanks in advance.

BTW: this knife has amazing F+F, the fit surpasses that of my Case knives costing 3x as much! I is also very comfortable in the hand.

Can you post a picture? They are not too rare except for some handle materials.

Sorry, no camera but it looks just like this.

It has a creamy off-white/yellow compostiion handle. I don't think it is anything special other than being a great knife. Mine also says Schrade+ USA 175 which the one in the above pic does not.

I managed to find that in a search of the model number, but it didn't have much info. Thanks for the link anyway.

Brian, I'd use it for sure. That's a delrin handled model, I'm a little fuzzy on when they started the Schrade+ stamp, but I think it was sometime in the mid to late eighties. They're pretty common and don't resell for a whole lot, generally for under $20 on Ebay. They may have been made for the florist trade but make a damned good carpenter's knife as well:thumbup::D

Thanks for the info. I will sharpen her up and take her to work with me today. When I first picked it up, I thought it was something special since it is so well made and I had never seen one before. If all the blades in my 8OT were as good as this one, it would never leave my pocket.

Eric: I recently picked up a 175 w/delrin handle similar to the photo above your letter but it has 3 rivets instead of 2, marked Shrade (line 1) N.Y.USA (line 2) 175 (line 3). I used a steel on it, then a strop, it shaves! I agree, it is a darn good knife and will be a permanent carry pocket knife.

True of most old Schrades I reckon. There's still plenty around.

I actually have one of these from my grandmother, she was indeed a florist. Its in good condition, though I may have botched the angle aof the edge just a little when I sharpened it. It cuts great and stays really sharp. I know his thread's a little old, but does anybody have any tips to prevent rust and whatnot? I'll attach a some pictures of it too...http://imgur.com/a/QEEcR

Schrade + means it's stainless steel and isn't susceptible to rusting. The handle appears to be Delrin, which is very durable and not prone to shrinking although it does fade and deteriorate if left in direct sunlight.

Just keep using it as you have been, or set it aside as a keepsake from your grandmother.
