Back in the (Walden?) days, Schrade made a swell-center/bowtie whittler (not the 804).

I've been hunting for one of these, but am hampered by not knowing the model number.

Does anyone know? Pictures welcome as well!

Regards,

Jeremy

It's a fantastic pattern.

If you're having trouble tracking down a Schrade 863, the Craftsman 9494 is essentially the same pattern and I believe at least some of them were made by Schrade. You can also experience the pattern in Camillus form as the Camillus 72 and variants. this post in the Camillus 72 Whittler Pattern thread is a great source of information.

Here's a shot of my collection to give you an idea of the possibilities:

From top to bottom: Boy Scout 1047, Camillus 72, Camillus 72 Yello-Jaket (stainless), Remington R14, Schrade 863, Craftsman 9494.

Good luck in your search!

Wow, thanks for the great info. Love the pattern.

As an aside, have you ever had any issues with Camillus' out-gassing from their sythetics?

The ones I have are Delrin, so I don't anticipate any problems.

I've seen some older ones with black synthetic handles that have shrunk, but I don't know whether that was accompanied by out-gassing. Perhaps someone more experienced with older Camillus knives can provide more insight.
