Knife #1) yellow delrin, blank crest shield, tang: Schrade/N.Y. U.S.A.; pile side 881Y; match striker pull on clip blade.
Knife #2) jigged brown delrin, SCHRADE on crest shield, tang: Schrade/N.Y. U.S.A./881; pile side blank; long pull on clip not match striker.
fit and finish on both is comparable and very good.
both are unused, but #2 just looks new, there is no hint of tarnish on the liners, whereas #1 does show minor tarnishing of liners.
were some Schrade/N.Y. U.S.A. knives made with pattern # on mark side ?
if the answer is other than YES, then i will post pics. thanks, roland

YES. It was quite common for pattern numbers to be stamped on the pile side of master blades of early Schrade Waldens. Some were also made with pattern number on the mark side.

thank you Codger. i have Schrade Waldens with pattern #s on either mark or pile side. but does the same hold true for Schrade/N.Y. U.S.A. ? all of these that i have, except #2 above have the pattern # on the pile side. an assumption would be that since either could occur with S/W then the same might be so for those with S/NY USA as this was the stamping that immediately followed S/W. i was hoping to go from assumption to confirmation. roland

I have several Schrade/NY USA knives with the pattern stamp on the back like a Schrade Walden. It doesn't necessarily mean the did it on all patterns. I think the Schrade / NY USA knives were either one way or the other, (front or back). Not sure about that.
