A very excellent reference book by Robert Clemente, "A Catalog History of Schrade Knives" and it lists most production dates I think. I do not have his book yet, but it is definately on my list of "have to gets".

As for the "where", look at the sticky post at the top. Every lumberyard, hardware store, gun shop, pawn shop, antique shop, flea market, gun and knife show, and megastore is suspect until you have checked them out.
Ebay is still a good source if you can focus on one or two patterns and put them daily on your watch list. Sooner or later a cherry will be missed by everyone else and you will get a really good deal.
