I've had my parents keep an eye out on their many many garage sale shopping all over from the thumb up to the mighty mack and she brought home what I think is a good find today. Sadly the tip is broke off a little looks like long long ago, other than that its super solid and just a little cleaning and wd40 its smooth as silk. One question is should I grind the spine down and put a tip on it or is that dropping the value. Also wondering if I anyone can date it.. Pics show the tang stamp and the back is blank.

I don't think putting a tip back on it would hurt the value. I think it would increase it. Nice find. The made in USA Schrades are nice blades.

Thank you, she got it for 10 bucks.. From what I found the stamp is mid 40s to 1973, and I read somewhere else in 1950 they started stamping back sides with serial numbers.. So I'm hoping its pre-1950 but would love to know for sure

You're going to get more feedback in the Traditional section, or in the Schrade collectors subforum...you might ask the Mods to move this thread :)
I'm not a Schrade expert so I can't say much on your knife, aside that this pattern is usually referred to as "folding hunter" and that old US made Schrade carbon steel takes an awesome edge and keeps it pretty good.

Just saw one just about identical for $20 in a pawn shop (with blade play). Almost got it. I don't know about value but a beast of Schrade like that's gotta be nice to carry. There is a Schrade collectors sub-forum with great peoples.

Well I'm not a "Schrade Collector" but I have found its the Mustang 125 ot Model Liner Lock. Still cant find a good way of dating it. If mod would like to move it to the proper sub forum please do.

Also, it does have a very good sharp edge on it. Solid and sharp, what else could ya want.

Definitely visit the Schrade Collectors forum. I have recently gotten into old Schrades and they can be tricky to date. There are people in the collector's forum that have been collecting Schrades for decades, some of them have ties to the old company. I've been blown away by their knowledge. I'm sure that they will be able to tell you everything there is to tell about your knife. They might not be able to give you an exact year, as Schrade seemed to make that as difficult as possible, but nobody else will be able to do better.

You know I hadn't really noticed that Leatherman, I can tell these are hard to date as I've already found conflicting data. lol

I used the two blade version for years as a work knife and for deer hunting chores. Your's has seen a lot of sharpening. I don't think you'll hurt the value grinding a new point/tip.

Spot on rimfire, makes sense now.. I know better than to ask for value but do you think 10 bucks was a good deal, super deal, bad deal? I told them anything Case, Buck, Gerber, or Schrade that's not beat up is worth at least 10-20 bucks, can't buy em new for that.

I'm not going to say whether I think it was a good deal or not, but I'll give ya 10 bucks for it right now. You know, just to help you get out from under the thing and all. :D

I don't know the exact production years, but that tang stamp is an early one for that model. Saluki's link is probably the best reference.

You aren't going to hurt the value by regrinding a tip, or any other repairs or mods. Old Timer knives were made by the millions, and unless in unused condition and preferably still in the original box, they don't have much collector value.
For ten bucks though, you have an excellent user and your parents certainly didn't pay too much. If it were NIB it might sell for a hundred.

Best wishes, and good luck with your 'new' knife.

You got a great deal for $10. You can hardly get coffee and a donut for that much these days.

And even if it wasn't a good deal (which it was), you better tell your Mama she did great! I mean it. Tell her that.

I already did a good clean up and soak in mineral oil... I definitely told my mom she did real well on it... They are out rummaging at sales every weekend so I gotta keep em happy. Thanks for the intel fellas, top notch as always.
