This is my first post and I am starting to get back into collecting the old fashion slipjoint knives. I have recently come across (6) Brand new old stock Schrade 940T trappers. One is in the old woodgrain box and the other 5 are in the tan/black box. All are made in the USA of course and complete with original packaging etc. The guy wants $25 each for these wonderful knives and they are in mint conditon. All have the well known Schrade+ steel. Are these a good buy for trading/resale at this price? He has other US made Schrade's which he has to locate. He also has a couple of Master Mechanic US made Schrade's also in original blister packs. Are these also collectible? Could you let me know if these are worth the asking price?

I've been watching the 940T's on ebay for a few weeks. $25 is about what they're going for in used but complete condition. You will get a little more for them in new condition, but you're not going to make big bucks on the deal, IMO.

They will appreciate slowly in value but it would be a long term investment at best. Having said that I would gladly kick 25 bucks into the pot for one.

For sure get the one in the wood grain box, especially if it has the blue cardboard insert. I do not believe either version of those came in SCHRADE+. Check the black tan box and it will say high carbon steel.

I have to make a correction on the steel type as I stated today. I examined the knives again and they are not Schrade + steel but are carbon. Does this change the value or not?

Probably not, but it might make them more desirable. I know that I much prefer Schrade 1095 carbon steel to the Schrade+ stainless, whatever it was.

more desirable will often add a few dollars to the price so I would say thse are worth a bit more...10%...then originally thought.

The Schrade + were okay knives, but the 1095 carbon they used was some great stuff. At the very end, just before they went out, I saw some Old Timers with the + steel from the Uncle Henry line, I guess they were using up any blades they had on hand.

Kind of like the Case true sharp vs the CV steel.

Good comparison.

I have a 94 OT.

It is the same basic pattern as the regular Schrade 293, but the Old Timers don't feel quite as sleek in the hand to me.

The scales have squared lines rather than the rounded ones on the 293's.

I dont see how you could go wrong with buying a couple of these. Schrade carbon trapper in the box for $25.00 sounds like a deal to me. I would be all over 1 just for my pocket.

I think I will take your advice and purchase 2 of these well built knives. They won't be making any more in Ellenville, so this is the right time to purchase. I like the carbon steel and the fit in my hand of Schrade's 3 7/8" vs. 4 1/8" of other makers trappers, namely Case! By being 1/4" shorter,it makes a nice package with 2 very useful blades and better fit in my pocket. The Old Timer may not be the prettiest knife on the block, but they are hell for stout! Thanks to all who helped me through all this.

Great knives, the 94OT is a great knife. I prefer the 194OT, they are going for $19 to $30 on Ebay.

Same knife in any other brand right now we would pay twice that. A great American company that you can't get their stuff anymore...I'd easily buy all he had at $25.
