I have some USA made Schrade Old Timer knives that came with their original boxes. The boxes are two piece wood grain. There are two different sizes, the larger ones have a flocked cardboard insert with a cutout for the knife, the smaller ones have a grooved foam insert. Can someone tell me what years these boxes were used?

Probably from 1973 (Unless Schrade Walden) for about 5 or six years on the ones with cardboard cutouts. The ones with the foam inserts lasted into the 80's. What patterns are they?

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

I have some stockmans (34OT and 8OT), Jack (33OT) and a couple of trappers.

Thanks for the info on the dates, I suspected the ones with a cardboard cutouts were older. They must have make a lot of knives back then as there seem to be quite a few available still new in the box.

Some of the oldest in the brown box are stamped as Schrade Walden, and you can still find a few of them on FleaBay. I've located a few of the Walden 34OT, 8OT, and 108OT in the plastic tubes as well.

The older models of Old Timers post Walden were three line stamps in some patterns but not all. A few even have the Schrade NY stamping with the pattern number on the back of the tang.

We've remarked here before it is pretty amazing that there are still retail stores where a guy might still stumble across new Schrade knives in the original packaging that are sometimes 30 years old. I think the durability of a good Schrade pocket knife, the availability of cheaper knives, and the fact they take up so little space contributes to some still being around.

I really like these knives. I will be keeping my eye out for more as long as they are available. These have been a bargin compared to the new knives available today. I believe I have paid less than $40 apiece for the ones I have.
