Hello everyone,

Tonight I was cleaning out my knife drawer and in the back ran into what I think was the first pocket knife I was ever given as a child. It's a green handled lock back old timer .

I've done a Google search trying to find something similar to how buck knives has their date codes set up, but I've had no luck.

Can anyone date this knife for me?
I thought the "+" on the blade might of been for the date , but I can't find anything to prove it.

I plan to pass this knife down to my son as well and thought it would be cool to give him some history on it when I do.

Not a date code, the "+" indicates that the knife is made with stainless steel.
Here is an old topic about the 5OT in which your knife is shown to date between 1993-2003.

Although not particularly old, and not valuable on account of the used condition, you should know that the Imperial Schrade Corp went out of business in 2004. That's a fine heirloom to pass down.

Moved to a better place than General Knife Discussion.
Make sure to read the threads at the top, including the rules.

Thanks bob , I didn't know they were out of business now . I wonder if I should still use this knife now or not...

I know my Old Timer is older than a couple of my employees, stamped schrade+, below that U.S.A. 60t.

It was the last Christmas gift my grandpa gave me before he passed, so its about 20 years old at least.

I carry this one almost everyday. And If I run across one I try to pick it up. I just gave a buddy at work a small stockman. They bring back ALOT of memories for me.

I still have the Schrade-Walden 108 OT I carried in high school---4th down from the top, there on the right, I think..... Similar anyway.

It's already used, and it's a rather common model. So no worries about continuing to use it. You can buy a NIB/unused Old Timer at auction if you want one for collecting (I have a few).

Any knife a family member owned is special. You future family will use it and think of all the trip and tames you used it. Similar to how jackknife in his stories takes about his father peanut and other knifes that were friends. We can all be so lucky to have family members interested in knife to pass down to.

I recently went to go browse Canal Street Cutlery's site (After Schrade closed some of the former employees formed a new knife company in the same old building) again and found that they had gone out of business as well. So can't even get a knife made by the same people anymore as easily (their already expensive knives now have a premium on them as the last of the stock being sold off on brand outlet sites).

Here's a thread about the closing; http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1342892-Another-sad-day-for-all-of-us. We're lucky that our Traditional forum knife for 2015 (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1309063-2015-BLADEFORUMS-Club-Knife-SHIPPED!!) was one of if not their last run. Of course we'd be happier if they were still around.

Great knife to have passed to you. I have purchased numerous OT's on line, thanks to BF. They are well made and good users.

Remember the old days when going out of business meant 50-80% off closeout sales? *sigh*
