Hello!
Does anyone know if Schrade/Old Timer would replace/refurbish the handle of my late brother's Schrade Old Timer 470T pocket knife? He had it for MANY years and it's a bit beat up.

Don’t know if schrade will but I’m sure someone here could help you out. I’m the complete opposite mindset (not saying you are wrong at all) but I’d carry that thing and use it like your brother did. Every beat and bang is a badge of honor showing how much he loved that tool. To each his own.

Maybe post in the crafters section and see if anyone would be willing to fix it up for ya. Sorry for your loss and good on you keeping that knife going however you choose to do it

I appreciate your response! One reason why the handle needs attention is because it is rubberized and had heat damage that has caused the rubber to come off any time you hold it. I thought the rubber would have resolidified by now, but it has remained incredibly soft where the damage is. I will ask around on here. Thank you for your condolence. Have a good one!

Oh yeah rubberized can be a problem. I’m sure somebody can rework it for ya. Great group of people here

I don't think Schrade will be of any help.

No one is gong to be able to reproduce the original handle in rubber. It might be possible for someone to make an entirely new handle out of something else, perhaps Ultrex "Sure Touch" which is a layered combination of G10 with rubber.

LOL that company ceased to exist quite some time ago. The brand name is all that remains of Schrade, and most are made in China.

They went toes-up back 20 years ago.
Look up Kyle Noseworthy. He might be able to help...

I must have an older 470T because it takes and holds a very sharp edge. I have only ever bought older Schrades/Old Timers for the better steel and workmanship.

Schrade isn't schrade anymore

I still haven’t got a chance to try to proper schrade. I have a schrade/old timer sharpfinger that gets considerably carry time and use. True be told I don’t have many complaints about it, it’s shaving sharp and carries well but I’d like to try one of the old ones.

If you want schrade tough schrade (usa) you will have to buy vintage pieces in near mint condition (if you want a user)
Or to put on a shelf I guess
