Hello All. I have not posted here for several years so hello again.

II have taken it into my head to get our grandson a Schrade one-piece knife for his 13th birthday next November. I think he will like the tools-in-the-handle feature and the overall ruggedness character. There is an unboxing video on YouTube that shows a knife in this line with a utility profile. Went looking online with the intention to buy one. Van't find it. All I see is two models with dagger looking or boot knife profiles.
even the Schrade website only shows only those two one-piece knives. Not going to get him either of them.

What happened? I'd still get him one preowned if in as-new condition.

When Taylor got bought out, the one piece line slowly got discontinued. The last 2-3 years, only the big spear point and the dagger remain, and I'm not sure if those will stay around. The dagger seems to be waning in popularity. Also, prices and lead time have gone up a decent amount on them.

Sometimes NIB older models show up on Ebay or dealers have a few NOS, but prices average $100 - 150 on the more useful models.

Thanks.

Not what I wanted to hear.

Back-when: Wish I'd taken out a loan to buy multiples of every Chris Reeve one piece model.

If you got the spear point model, it wouldn't be hard to regrind the tip profile to whatever you like. That way it would also have a bit of personalization that would make the gift mean that much more.

Honestly, get him a Buck, Kabar or an Esee. Then add a little kit with a fero rod, a smiths sharpener and a compass.

I also recommend getting the blade engraved. Check out DLT, KnivesPlus or KnifeWorks or even direct from Buck.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

The young man has several uncles who only have daughters. As a result, in the last few years, our grandson has been given a Swiss Army Knife, a Buck 112, a Gerber multi tool and a Lansky set. Going forward, he will have access to several premium grade sheath knives from his former Marine father. I was looking for something with a little more novelty (tools in the handle) that is not a dagger or boot knife. The CRK one-piece knives are so high they are un-obtanium safe queens. I would like to get one of the less agressive Schrade knives before they go that way too.

I have not been active on this set of forums for years. Is there a "Want to Buy" forum?

I'd like to look for the knife I described. As it is intended to be a gift, it has to be near mint, but I can't pay a collector's premium price.

Yes, close to bottom

but you must upgrade membership to at least :

I have a spear point, and they are pretty indestructible. However they are a big ol heavy piece of steel and quite thick at the edge. Certainly teen-boy-proof, but I think mine makes a better makeshift spear than a knife.

Good luck!

Any member can post a want to buy ad.

Thanks for that.

I want to avoid the spear point and dagger blade forms. I am looking for the older, discontinued utility blade form with a little belly at the point.
