Schrade Peanut

It seems that the peanut is pretty popular around here, but I generally only see Case mentioned. I thought I'd share a pic of a Schrade peanut that found its way into my pocket today. This knife was actually a freebie that someone threw in on a trade. I never really paid much attention to it, it just sat in my knife box. Well, today it took it out and gave it a little tlc. There was a little play in the secondary blade, which I fixed by hammering the bolster. This also made the main blade feel a little sturdier, as it doesn't have half stop(which I like), and the spring was weaker than my Cases. Now both blades are wobble free, and open a little stiffer. After this, I touched up the edges on my sharpmaker, then cleaned and oiled the joints. I'm actually really liking this little guy. That Schrade carbon steel sure does take a keen edge. I also noticed that the secondary blade is almost more of a wharncliff than a pen. Is this the way they came? Anyways enough babbling. I hope you enjoy the picture.

Very nice little pocket knife.:thumb up:

More workers I've known have carried one of those Old Timers than any other brand. Great 1095 carbon steel, and ground nice and flat. Great slicers.

Be careful of hammering too much, those Old Timers have a keyway type of bolster, and you can't really see the pin on them.

Carl.

From the picture, that looks like a 72OT, a "Dog Leg Jack."
That small blade may be worked down some, it's impossible to tell from that photograph angle.

If you really like those Old Timer knives but are interested in a more peanut-like pattern, check out the 12OT Pal. Here's one I purchased recently:

I'm a huge fan, and collector, of original Old Timer knives. I hope you keep using that 72OT, it's a great little pattern and a great steel.

Thanks Carl, I'm not to knowledgable in how slip joints are constructed, but I'll take you word for it. I got her nice and snug, and she seems no worse for the wear. I don't see me needed to hammer anymore.

Bob, it is a 72ot. It is a little different than a Case peanut, but it's Pretty close. I'll have to look around for one like you have.
