Schrade Pro Hunter Stage Handle

Depends upon the seller in most instances. :-)

Actually, I wouldn't call it "rare" in any case.

Can't be too rare, I have one. :)
I'm sure they aren't as common as the synthetic handles though, but "rare" is still a stretch.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

I don't know exactly how old mine is. I bought it from a dealer on eBay after Schrade closed. But I do have some clues as to it's age:
The box is black with blue stripe and silver lettering. The pamphlet is copywrited 2002. And the blade is stamped "Schrade+".

So 2002 - 2004 would be my guess. I'd appreciate it if anyone could narrow that down.

A 1974 stag-handled Pro-Hunter, NIB? It's getting more rare every minute. :D

Bill, can you clarify: Is this a stag handled Schrade or is it the Staglon handled version? Also, does the knife you are refering to have a 'birdshead' pommel, or a simple brass one, with a phillips head screw affixing it to the blade tang?
Phil

Pro Hunter was one of the names Schrade recycled several times over the years. The Schrade-Loveless, the 171UH (two varients, two productions), and of course the PH1 and PH2 series. Also there was an Imperial Pro Hunter folding knife that a picture was posted of a while back. And I may well be leaving out an earlier knife from the Walden years.

From one Bill to another.....

Do you happen to be the knifemaker Bill Coffey?

Bill

Aw.... damn. I had the gall to ask a professional knife maker if he knows the difference between stag and staglon... I do apologize, and welcome to our forum!
Phil

phil,
Don't feel bad !!
I figured it was another eBay seller who wanted info for his item description.
Welcome to the forum,Mr.Coffey !!

Mr Coffey if you have a factory stag handled 171UH flat brass pommel then it is to coin a phrase Damn Rare. If it does not have the screw it is not factory original. They did not make these bowies sans the screw in real stag or in anything else at least not to my knowlede however ( with Schrade you never know what might have come out of the custom shop or R&D) the Pro Hunter term or PH-1 or PH-2 ( modeled after the Loveless droppoint colaboration)was done in stag as well as various other handle materials however do not meet your description. The Texas style ( actually a shortened texas drop texas style ) of bowie was made in stag with a flat brass pommel sans screw it was this version of bowie used for the WWII issue, the NRA issue and a few other issues. The Pro hunter term was also as mentioned used in earlier issues I believe it was used for a leather wrapped electro etched hunting sheath knife. It may have been used for other issues as well. A picture would indeed help. LT
