I just got my first schrade knive off of ebay, a 8OT stockman. The knife appears to work fine, but I noticed that for every single blade when it was closed, the backsprings were flush with the handle, but when open, it would sit slightly above it, and the back of the blade is always just a bit lower than the rest of the handle, and doesnt sit flush with it. Is this common for all schrade knives, or was I unlucky and got a lemon?

Forgot to add, this was a USA schrade, not the new China ones.

It would be unusual for the backspring not to be flush when the blade is open or closed. Not unheard of but unusual and probably a fault.

Please check the main blade for me and verify its a USA Schrade.
Thanks
Larry

I've checked, and it says SCHRADE USA. 8OT. So I suppose this is uncommon with other schrades?

Not necessarily 5370H55V! Alot depends on age and use/abuse and cutler who put them together;) day of week etc etc:eek:. I have newer knives that are not "perfect" (hard too be this) and older ones as well that all have some difference in backspring alignment. Some proud backsprings (usually blade open) and some smooth as well as some sunken:confused:(usually from tang wear).

SOOO there are several variables to consider IMHO.

Thanks Shawn, but this one appears to be of relatively recent manufacture. It looks like it was never used too, so I don't think its due to age or wear.

It might be an end of days knife that was never finished properly.
They did throw some things together at the end.

Sometimes they aren't perfect. I also have a NIB 8OT with high backsprings ,when open.
